As many of you know I initiated a pass-along of a copy of Thousand Campfires ( donated by Suedog) in May 2022. I requested everyone sign their name once done reading and initiate a draw. That copy is still in circulation and has 36 signatures...that's the good news.

The bad news is there was already another copy of 1000 Campfires being circulated and that copy has now disappeared.

On February 9 Bob J (Robert Jahnke) won a pass-along of that copy in a draw initiated by Stickman.

On April 1, seven weeks after Bob J would have received it, I sent him a PM asking if he was going to initiate another draw.

He replied:

" Bob J - March 5 2020md said he got it and would be doing the next pass along once he read it. Not a long book to read. Took me three days and I'm not a speed reader. Maybe send him a message."

I replied asking how 2020md (John Hain) had come to have possession of the book (as there had been no draw initiated!?). I did not receive a reply.

I also contacted 2020md and asked if he had the book and how he got it? I received no reply.

I have sent each of them three follow up messages asking that they clear this matter up as people would like the pass-along to resume. Neither replied to those messages and Bob J has posted here several times after those messages so is simply ghosting me.

I had asked BobJ to contact John and fix this problem...seems he did not.

In my last messages yesterday I advised them I was left with no choice but to put a post up describing the situation.

It seems Bob J simply sent the book to 2020md without having a draw. That's a big problem because no one would know that happened and if I had not inquired the book would be truly gone.

Both of them have entered the pass-along several times before winning so they certainly know the drill, and should not have agreed to send or receive the book.BobJ should have conducted a draw.

Hopefully this post will motivate them to fulfill their duty...

I guess some people just can’t play by the rules.

I knew it was bound to happen! Sounds like a couple of good for nothing rotten THIEVES! A couple of SCUMBAGS for sure. Either both are too dumb to follow instructions or planned on keeping the book in the first place. Probably both…. It’s really sad that a couple clowns have had to ruin this…..

I thought the drawing for it was the 8th of April.

Oopps, the other copy, my bad. Yea I gave up on it long ago. It's somewhere I suppose,, it'll show up, or not.

I sent a string making video pass around years ago. This was long ago enough to be a VCR tape. The first two guys got it and passed it on, the third guy got it and said he passed it on, guy #4 never got it. It could have been addressed wrongly; it could have been lost in the mail; shipping was in a priority mall VCR box which usually goes through OK.

Unfortunately, there is a small minority of folk out there without a sense of honor or responsibility, they just don't care. When questioned these folk they always have a "my dog ate it" kind of BS response so you know they are lying.

The video was made by Norm Blaker and was the first video that described Flemish and endless loop string making in detail, up to that point few people had even heard of Flemish strings. There was no You Tube back then so information was hard to come by.

I always suspected guy #3 stole the video, hopefully he didn't.

I would have loved to pass around more of my video collection but that first attempt gave me a bad taste in my mouth so my first attempt became my last.

I did a Jojan multi-fletcher trade with a guy for a couple of bitzes about the same time, every time I questioned the guy about shipping the bitzes I got some lame excuse on why he hadn't shiped them. After hounding him for 4 months he finally shipped what he promised.

When the Trad Gang posted their "wall of shame" of people who had scammed people on a sale or trade that guy was at the top of the list, I guess I was lucky to get anything out of him.

What a shame. Such a great book, so fun to read. I'm glad I got a chance to read it before it went AWOL.

Perhaps folks on here could politely message those two and request they return the book to circulation. I realize the temptation to be less than polite...but...

I agree with Bugle-Up.

Best to message these two individuals and ask them to do the right thing.

From: Jon Stewart

I looked the book up and saw that is has a $200.00 plus value. I never heard of it BUT because of the possible high value I would try to get it back and put it on the bookcase.

As everyone can see the missing book is now an issue and that is too bad.

Have not heard from either of the two members…crickets

From: Timberking Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member
Date: 09-Apr-24

I doubt you’ll hear anything from either of them. Both know damn well that they are are screwing EVERY other member here over. I doubt we’ll see anything from them on here either. SCAMMERS come in many shapes and sizes and not just to rip you off on a bow……..

From: David McLendon

So, if we were to message them what were their names? Dick, was it?

From: Mike E

Jeez, it's just a book, if it's gone I'm over it, if it shows up good.

From: Gray Goose Shaft

The point is that the owner of the book trusted a group of archers to share the rare and entertaining book among themselves, but an individual decided to steal it. Does that make him smart or just selfish?

From: Heavy Metal
Date: 09-Apr-24

As the owner of the first book that made the rounds I am happy the book made it into as many hands as it did. I went by the handle Dirtnap back then. I initially won a giveaway from Fritz for that book. After reading it I decided it was better shared than kept sitting on a shelf. I've casually seen both editions run there course on various threads and have always been excited seeing everyone putting their name in to read the rich stories within. There was a time about a year ago when the pass along hit a temporary stall. Give it time and I'm sure we'll see it get back on track.

I hope you’re right Chris.

Sorry for the lack of integrity of these people. We have so many great men and women that shoot the bows we love.A few rotten apples are bound to show up.I loaned my copy to a guy years after we hunted nutria was ewith bows.I wanted to get him excited about traditional archery.I never got the book back, they moved and I asked several times about it.The last time I was very close to losing my temper I just walked away.It was a signed copy when Jay was a guest speaker at out banquet.Im almost over it now.Ive loaned and gifted alot of bows books etc that was the only time it didn't work out. I still do it for the greatest passion of ours.

it could have been lost in the shipping service, probably should always use shipping that provides tracking. the last person that had it in their possession could chime in here and explain, would be an honorable thing to do

From: Timberking Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member

If was lost in shipping that would be understandable. These two have ghosted everyone.

I have an update:

Bob J has contacted me with the following messages:

"Sorry I didn't follow you proper protocol on the book. I sent it to John Hart and shipping shows it was delivered to him on March 4. He has not responded to my messages either. I will be sending him a letter today about it. Bob J"

I asked Bob J if he knew 2020md and why he sent him the book and he replied:

"Bob J - No, don't know him. Just did a random pick of those on the list. Sorry for not starting a new draw. Letter is in the mailbox for him to contact you and get the book moving along again. For some odd reason I can't send him or anyone anymore messages through Leatherwall unless they are currently in my messages."

I explained to him that the pass-along is participatory and that if someone just sends someone the book then it is effectively lost...he seems to understand that now and is actively trying to make this right...

I urged him to post on here and explain what happened as that is his duty..

I will continue trying to contact 2020md but he shows up on here very rarely and usually only enters draws...hopefully he responds once he gets Bob J's letter.

I will tell you that, in the future, if I am holding a draw I will scratch any name that I feel is just entering draws...

From: Zbone
Date: 10-Apr-24

Just did a search on "2020md", the guy only posts for drawings, consider that book stolen... Sad...

From: Timberking Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member
Date: 10-Apr-24

It boggles the mind that soooooo many people don’t understand how this DRAWING and PASS ALONG works yet they jump right in the drawing……. We’ve had guys think it was theirs to keep, countless others that just sent it to buddies or like this one who just picked a name from the list from the previous drawing…….

I’ve been thinking about putting a book up for pass along. But this makes you think twice about it Paul Brunners book Tree Stand hunting is an excellent read but I think I’ll wait to see how this pans out. Fritz

Dear All, I apologize for not passing the book back along sooner. I don’t get on this site often so I didn’t see the messages or I would have responded sooner. I truly appreciate the opportunity I was given to read this book and I have posted it for pass along. Please accept my apologies for not passing it back sooner. John

As I read from the top to the bottom of this thread I was sad also on what was going on but then at the end was good to see people man up and get it right.Being on this site a number of years there has been allot of good people here with kindness and generosity let's keep it going

I sent 2020md a PM last night and he has already replied that he has it and plans to send it to another member as soon as he finishes reading it. It sounds like it's not lost or stolen, but that life just got in the way.

Let’s let this thread rest for now OK ?

From: Pdiddly2

All is well…glad 2020md got the messages

For future reference. anyone posting a draw should EMPHASIZE that it is a pass-along and another pass-along needs to be concluded within 10-12 days of getting the book.

They must have a draw and NOT send the book to someone.

It seems odd that this concept is lost on folks who, among other things, drive, own firearms, raise children and hold down jobs. We're doomed:)

From: Pdiddly2

Unfortunate that Bob J, who actually created this debacle, did not accept my suggestion to post on here and explain his actions…
