Today I shot CD's - shot of the day challenge with the coolest bow I own. The bow is a 62" - 56# @ 27" - Eagle Wing - Storm Eagle. With an Elk Antler Riser. The bow was made for me by Steve Talent of Eagle Wings in 2016. It has static tips, carbon back with sapple belly mounted limbs. Steve even managed to rig up a way for me to mount a kwikee quiver. At the end of each antler base, Steve carved two eagle heads. He use deer antler bases for the limb bolts and then because he is a selfless person, he cut the whistle tooth of a bull elk he killed and mounted each half over the bolt head.

I have hunted this bow each year since it was made, but did not have a shot with it. As luck goes I got shooting when I switched bows. I intend to carry this bow during the 2024 deer season and finally give it a proper baptism. I hope everyone enjoys the photos of this bow. They show the artistic craftsmanship and skill that Steve has developed during he career as a bowyer. Thanks - Joe

S. Quinton, I do not know if Steve is still building bows. I believe I heard he moved and retired. But I cannot say that is a fact. I have not seen him post on the wall in a long time. He goes by - SIXBY. Thanks - Joe

It’s very cool looking. What does that bow weigh? Is it on the heavy side?

From: barebo2

No doubt one of the coolest and most artistic works of craftsmanship I've ever seen. Looks like a great shooter as well!

Yep, that is about as cool as it gets...or as cool as it ever can get.

That is without a doubt cool!

Stacy Groscup use to have a bow like that.

Those elk antler risers are awesome. Yes, Stacy Groscup had a bow like that, I am almost positive Bobby Thompson built that bow, he put a steel rod inside the antler to prevent it from coming apart.

From: Bugle-up

Wow, that's unique!

Awesome bow for sure.. Screwing a bow quiver mount on a elk antler bow should be against the law, but that's just me..

From: Lowcountry

Definitely a unique bow- or at least I’ve never seen anything like it.

Back before he retired from bowyering, Bob Thompson of Zipper bows built Elk Antler risers, quite unique. He was a Master Bowyer and built the best custom bows I've shot. Still own 3 and will probly die w/ 'em! My son gets one, my best friend gets one, and we'll see about the 3rd!

I spoke with Steve about 6 years ago when I was buying one of his bows off of the RMSG site. He said then that he was thinking to build just a few per year, as SanMarco was doing at about that time…. Don’t know if he’s still at it and I didn’t get a response last time I emailed him, but all I really know from that is that a guy who bought a used bow a long time ago is not a real high-value relationship ;)

Definitely NOT taking that personally!

Mine must be one of his earlier examples, because he said that he had forgotten about that one until a picture or two jogged his memory on it.

Not only is it the fanciest-looking bow I own, but GPP to GPP, I’m pretty sure it’s the fastest, and I am POSITIVE that I shoot it better than any other bow I own…. Must be that he built the bow for a smaller hand, or so I assume given that it was tillered to #54@ just 25”… At my DL it’s hitting about #60-#62.

I had quite a time tuning this one because it wants quite a bit more spine than I had expected, so I ended up building out the strikeplate quite a bit before I got it dialed. But now it shoots 2117s + 125 and 340s + 225 interchangeably, as this 3-shot group shows…. And cut to 27 3/4”, those are both quite stiff arrows.

No, I don’t usually shoot this well from 45 yards, but I was shooting lights out that evening.

Corax, you have great bow there. Steve made some super bows. Thanks for all the good comments. I thought everyone would find the elk antler bow pretty cool. It is a very good shooter and smooth. Don T asked about the bow weight. On a kitchen scale it was 4 pounds, which is heavy. But I weighed my Black Widow PSAX - with G10 and it was also 4 pounds. Photos of bow bows on the scale attached. Thanks - Joe

Great looking, great shooting. What more could you want?

I wanted an Elk antler riser in a bad way at one point, but FOUR POUNDS!!! I don’t think I would be able to really enjoy that at 11,000 feet!!

Saw a bow like that antler riser. Antique shop. Called a VooDoo bow.Pretty cool , I would have loved to cast some arrow through it.

Holy Cow Joe, that is one cool bow! you have to get it broke in right my friend. Would be nice to get an elk where your camp is with it. Sweet bow! Jerry

You found a VooDoo in an antique shop?? Dayum!

Somebody didn’t know what they had! (Or maybe the price tag said otherwise?)

Hate to break it to ya…but those ain’t static tips Cool bow though

Wasn't the VooDoo made by a guy in Indiana? Seem like his 1st name was Steve and didn't think his last name was Talent.

From: Jon Stewart
Date: 09-Apr-24

I believe the VooDoo was made by Steve Hartley. Spelling may be off. When I worked with Camp Cuervo we put on a fund raiser in Indiana and honored Steve who lost his son in the war. He had a couple of Elk antlered VooDoo bows with him.

From: Corax_latrans

Steve Tallant is EagleWing; VooDoo is another bowyer entirely. Don’t let me confuse you!

From: Murph

VooDoo. What a strange name for a bow.

I love that riser!
