Who do bowyers rely on most for laminations now? I've followed up on several threads from years past, and many of the providers are now out of business. Are 3 Rivers and Kenny's Custom Archery the main sources, or are there other manufacturers? Thanks for help. Linda

I have yew in stock and as many as 70 other species as well. Until we can get more help, you would have to email or call to check on any. Thanks, Bigjim

A lot of bowyers just make their own. I've always preferred to cut and grind my own laminations if possible.

Brandon,,what size was the stock when you got it in for grinding your laminations?

I think this lady has a supply of Yew that was deemed not suitable for selfbows and she is looking for a market for the staves sawed into laminations.

As stated above most bowyers are going to want to cut and grind their own. Get a list of bowyers. Find out what size stock they would need. Maybe ship a pc. or two to a couple of bowyers at no charge so they could critique the quality and go from there.

Thanks for the advice. Yes, I do have a large stash of <1960s yew I'm wanting to sell, preferably for archery use. (Earlier posts were "Inherited yew wood".) I wondered if bowyers prefer making their own laminations. I'll follow the leads you've given. Best wishes, Linda

Yes, you'd be best off just to sell them as is.

Most bowyers can take care of processing the wood for laminations themselves. That is no issue, and probably preferred by most.

Just list the size and price of the pieces (pics are very helpful too), and you'll have no problem selling them.

Mike E,

With yew, you just use whatever size you can get.

And if it's not suitable for core laminations you can just process it into thin veneers.

The last yew that I had was from a fairly large slab.

However, even though it was large, it wasn't very suitable for good quality core lams, so I just made it into veneers.

This 2010 PBS bow was one of the bows that I made from that slab.
