Off to a good start with my latest project. Hafting an obsidian blade that Mechanic- aka Pawel, knapped for me in a trade. On to a Cherry burl handle. Thanks again Pawel! No I just need to figure out the pine resin glue thing.

nice job of knapping Pawel, looks like it will be an awesome knife when you get thru with it Thomas , always wanted to make one, they are just very cool knives.

Knapping and handle look great.

I use 2 part epoxy with drop of India Ink to turn the epoxy black. Just stir the ink and glue up.

As the epoxy dries just use your fingers and touch the glue and it will give it that matte look of pine resin. I keep doing it until the glue is dry.

I also set the blade with a few drops of gel super glue 1st before applying the epoxy. Make sure to tape off the blade and handle before applying any glue.

Forgot to mention. I have made a lot of things using cherry burl and nothing makes it pop like wipe on poly. I apply 6 or 7 coats of poly then let it dry for 3 days. I use 0000 steel wool on the wood prior to the final coat then let that dry for 3 or 4 days and gently work the handle over with the 0000 steel wool again. That gives it a nice matte finish look to it.
