Just wondering if any of the well known bowyers or ANY bowyers that make limbs for bows that are not theirs?

I felt like this is a rude question to ask bowyers directly.

Like if I have a vintage takedown bow that is no longer produced and bowyer retired. I want new limbs that would fit it. Doesn't have to be exact replication, just so it fit the riser.

several years ago Bob Davis made for me a good set of longbow limbs to fit on my (Fedora) BIG EAST INTERLOCk takedown recurve. Bob also makes the occasional wood ILF risers. his business is Toxocraft bows. I've had several of his ILF risers. He does great work.

There are some folks who make limbs for bows such as the Bear takedown and so on.

To make one custom set of limbs, for one bow, that a bowyer may never make again is an investment in time, material, and money.

They are going to have to build a form, measure the length and width taper of the limb to get an idea of how to build it, and then build a set or 2 to see what they need to do to hit the weight you want. Personally, I would want the riser too so that I could make sure the fit is what it should be etc.

So yeah...someone may do it, but it won't likely be cheap unless you find somebody who has already made limbs for that bow. And even then it won't be cheap.

As far as being embarrassed to ask a bowyer......you aren't really going to get a definitive answer to the question unless you do ask.

I think it will be nearly impossible to find.

I'm not a bowyer but it seems to me that unless the buyer wants the exact limb profile as the original, the only real custom work is matching and fitting the limb butt to the riser.

What am I missing?

I agree PHIL. MIGHT be a fairly easy thing to alter limb fittings / attaching points to go on other risers.....as long as limb itself is kind of similar, not drastically different.

I have a very good friend that makes bows and he’s has done it with very good results

Hitting the requested/desired draw weight would be one of custom features.

That is the one great thing about the ILF system, you don't have to worry about this problem. DANNY

I can see that but having some experience and checking the limb pad angle a bowyer should be able to get in the ballpark pretty easily.

What bow are you needing limbs for? I ask as I build replacement limbs for Rocky Mountian Recurves.

I know at least 4 bowyers that make limbs for other makers riser.
