A Super Archery Mitt, anyone heard or used one? Does anyone know where to get one? Thanks

I had one years ago but it wasn’t for me. They were well made I will day. I am pretty sure they are not made commercially anymore. But I have seen plans for making your own. It might have been a trad group on FB?

I have one. I don't use it. I have it in my gear case in case I forget or lose my glove. I think it still works!

3 Rivers carries it. Made from cordovan leather . The original was not.

Picked up a couple at the old AMO show when the original owner used to set up there. Used them for years.

But honestly in my experience they weren't much different from most any other good tab type product when used.

The difference between the SAM, and any other tab is the protection that you get in between your index and middle fingers. That makes it a lot easier to switch over to if you are used to shooting a glove. I bought one many years ago and literally wore it out, so I opened it up and traced the pattern onto a piece of Cordovan, which one of the guys here was kind enough to send over to me. In Cordovan, especially, it works extremely well for me. I think that I benefit more from the double layer of protection, because I tend to shoot in the mid 50s up to low 60s range for poundage.

I also shoot one of Rick Barbee’s excellent Death Adder tabs, and it, too, shoots extremely well… Although I tend to do better with that one with slightly lower poundage, as my index and middle fingers get squished together a bit more with more weight on the string. Without the added protection, I just can’t get as many shots in a session without blistering a bit…

Neither of the two tabs I just described is inexpensive, but Rick’s tab has replaceable components if it comes to that. And made out of Cordovan, I expect SAM #2 to last just about forever. It will be a very happy day when that one gets laid to rest, because that will mean that I be getting to do an absolutely extraordinary amount of shooting over the years which still lie ahead…

I have a couple from many years ago. I never got use to the complexity, but they do work very well.

dakota -

I shot with the guys who invented it, back in the 1970's and 80's), and it was my go to tab for decades, when I shot heavier bows. They actually made a three layer version for me. (Before that, I had to use a tab over a glove) For pure "trad" shooting, probably the best "tab" design on the market.

Viper out.

Thanks everybody, I looked at the one on Three Rivers website and it looks kind of thin? Does anyone know where I could get plans so I could try to build one? thanks

Seems like most that used them moved on to something else. That includes me. I bought two and finally broke one in. At first it was so thick that it caused me to shoot to the left. Not a fan. Bateman makes as good as you can get.

Well, if they were “everybody’s“ cup o’ tea, I suspect they wouldn’t have gone out of production for a while (as they did), but if they hadn’t been off the market for a while they’d likely be more popular now than they are…. But I can sure see why most people would be reluctant to try one out at the current pricing… I’m pretty much a cheapskate, so it’d keep me away without a good reason.

And I’m not embarrassed to say that I shot mine for a while and went back to a glove, but when DireWolf encouraged me to try a tab and a deep hook, I picked it back up and that’s how I came to wear it out…

So maybe they’re a bit of an acquired taste?

But JMO, if you shoot higher weights and/or you like a spacer, there’s a good chance you’ll get along with one. And FWIW, while my original tab did take some breaking-in, the Cordovan replacement was good to go in just a few shots, really…..

Anyway, maybe not for everyone, but when I can shoot in excess of 100 arrows/session with no discomfort and drop my shots into the width of the (65cm) 6-ring a good chunk of the time from a full Fetrow away, I have trouble imagining that the tab is causing me any problems….

Maybe it’s all between my ears, but then, about 90% of this game probably IS…..

They are cool, and the finger slots are unique, but they are just another tab. Better than some for some folks, not as good as some for others.

The draw weight of the bow being shot is kind of irrelevant since tabs can be and are made in different thicknesses....just like gloves.

That is the tab I use all the time. Martin Archery used to sell them. I made a pattern by taking apart a worn out one. Since then I have made several for myself that work as good as the original. I use veg tanned leather and I can make them as thick or as thin as I want.I tend to favor a thicker tab and use 7/8 oz veg tan. I thin it slightly using sandpaper. They are a little bit stiff at first but some leather dressing loosens them up and makes them slicker.

I consider them somewhat of a hybrid between a tab and a glove because of the additional finger coverage. I really like them myself over anything else I've tried.
