William Folberth invented the center shot riser. There were previous versions where you literally shot through the center of the riser. The riser was built with a hole in it. Folberth's used a shelf and side plate that were cut to center.

His automotive invention was vacuum operated windshield wipers.

I did not know that Ben Pearson invented automotive related equipment. Learn something new all the time.
