Who carries a Spyderco while bow hunting? Let’s see them:)

From: Scoop Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member

I carried a Spyderco similar to yours, Don, in my pocket for some 29 years as a police reserve captain. My grandson, deployed to a bordering country next to Ukraine, now carries it. Darn good knives and very likely saved a couple of serious injuries or lives in overturned car crashes with ruptured gas tanks. It made short work of seat belts with the individuals upside down and safe extractions. Never carried a serrated edge while hunting, though. Take home message is to always carry a good knife.

The right tool for the job Mark. I never gutted a deer with a serrated knife either. And I don’t know anybody that has. Maybe somebody that has tried a serrated knife for gutting a deer chime in.

Not for deer, but for cutting the feet and tail off of beavers before skinning.

I prefer a folder that doesn't have plastic scales and serrated edge. But a lot of people swear by them.

Limited Edition Orange Native 5, CPM S90V Super Steel and Dragonfly 2, clone... I actually have 2 of the Dragonfly 2, I had 3 and gave one away...

I got the Orange Native 5 off fellow LeatherWaller...

I carry one everyday.

I carried this Endura, for 18 years, but I never took it hunting. I always thought it was more blade than I needed, and I didn't like serrations, until I needed a big blade with serrations. Then, it was perfect!

Please forgive me if this is a stupid question ... but ... does the hole in the blade have a functional purpose?

From: Shag
Date: 13-Mar-24

Phil, it acts a thumb stud or pinch point to assist in opening.

I carry one similar but it’s a Kershaw. It’s also my money clip.

The Syderco Endura my wife got me for Christmas is now my everyday carry knife. I really like it. Good sized folder but still light weight.

I carry a Spyderco Endura. It's the only knife I use to dress everything from squirrels to deer. I even have an original one with the molded clip, but prefer my new Endura 4 in blaze orange.

Nice Spydercos up there! I once eschewed them over Benchmade but have grown to appreciate their quality and most of all the front finger choil. The original Gayle Bradley I have would make a decent hunting folder. Primarily though, I have White River fixed knives for this.

I carried one like that for years. I got so used to having it with me all the time that it was in my pocket when I was trying to go through airport security on a flight.

I had to leave it with them....almost made me cry.

I know they auction off boxes of knives from TSA. It's a crap shot as to what's in the box.

From: Zbone

I carried my Native 5 as a EDC for a while, and also one of the Dragonfly2s,,, and luv the Native 5 but it's just a little too big for me to carry as a pocket knife and the Dragonfly2 is a little to small so been thinking about getting a Chaparral lightweight, it's size is in between...

From: Wudstix Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member
Date: 13-Mar-24

I like the Native 5, it's light and I wouldn't want a knife any smaller.

I carry the blue Endura and dragon fly on me when hunting.

The spyderco hunter is in my pack.

The stainless police and the small serrated are more impulse bought.

Hard to loose a blue knife, I have lost a black ti enduro tho.

Hard to beat a spyderco knife in my opinion.

With the opening hole…it’s always at the ready.

From: David McLendon

My EDC is a Spyderco 1st Generation James Keating Chinook since 2002. I have the serrated version still NIB, I don't know what I'm saving it for, probably should get it out and use it too.

Heres something different, I made scales for a Spyderco mule….its customized for a lefty- me.

Here it is with my progression of fixed hunting knives over the years- from L to R.

I cannot remember the exact steel but it’s not 100% stainless….. it’s great steel and hold an edge like crazy but if you put it away with even just a little bit of blood on it it stains the blade.

From: pdk25

I frequently carry a delica as my EDC, but very rarely do I use them for hunting. I don't like digging stuff out of the folding mechanism after dressing or butchering an animal. I will post some of my Spyderco pics later. I have processed a couple of hogs with the stretch model.

Hey Don, the Delica would probably be my favorite as an edc, because it is so light and fits my hand so well. The native is nice too. If I was gonna be in a fight, the silver axe lock you in super tight and is a little more robust blade. If I had to choose one for processing, it would be the stretch, but for just field dressing the native would probably do a good job. The dragonfly makes a great knife for ultralight backpacking though. A lot of words to say the Delica is my favorite, lol.

Thanks Pat, That’s good knife information. From a guy that has tried most of them Spyderco’s:)

I have owned PM2 in camo for 4 years and it's a great knife with S 30 blade steel.

From: pdk25

I love the pm knives for their action, but they are quite a bit heavier than some of the other models.

I like the Native SPY27 for a carry knife, like the Bow River for a neck knife when hunting.

Really time the Native Chief would make a good all purpose knife.

These are my latest three. The little blue one is my pocket knife is pretty. The middle is my boat knife. I'm not of fan of this kind of handle, but it's perfect for the boat fishing or ducking. The orange one is my field dress knife. It's the sharpest hunting knife I have ever had. It's orange because I put them down in the field and can never find them!

JDinPA - Is the middle one a MANIX® 2 LIGHTWEIGHT FRCP BLACK?
