Having lots of trouble steam bending, broke a lot of bows and can't figure it out. Any advise would be appreciated.

What kind of wood are you using, how long are you steaming it, and what technique are you using to bend it ?

I'm using mostly hickory. don't know what the moisture is, but it has sat in the barn for years. As for the method I have tried several different things mostly over a pot on the stove, some times for over an hour.

Depending on the dimensions of the piece of wood an hour may not be long enough. Is it cracking or what is happening?

Most of them were under 3/8 and splintering all the way up. I haven't used a metal strap I've tried a rachet strap, but I guess it could stretch. What's TBB?
