String profile on the left. This is James’ Bamboo Dragon style bow. It’s my favorite of his bamboo designs

James did most of the work. At least showed each step and then I did other side. I did do the final tillering on my own. Reducing width of outer thirds to get them bending more.

I have to ask, what does carbonized mean?

From: Gaur Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member
Date: 13-Sep-23

Carbonized is from heating we used a big torch and donut very quickly. Traditional Japanese style does it slowly in a smoke house I believe. It makes the belly side stiffer. You don’t want backing bamboo carbonized as it reduces its strength in tension. Ok for compression side

Some of my comments got taken down as my pic were too big

I made this bow with James Parker down at his shop last week. The bamboo is madake I got from Jaap at yumi bows. Stopped by and visited with him last Jan and got some bamboo. The madake is in back and belly. The belly side was carbonized to give it even more stiffness but madake is very stiff already. I just like the canonized look too.

The riser was some sides up wood a Thai friend gave me. Tips are albino Buffalo horns from thailand as well I got there. There is one tapered lam ate in this bow from Osage. Should be pretty as Osage darkens and contrasts with bamboo edges

Just did a hand rubbed finish this morning with Odies dark . I’ll most some finished pictures after it dries

to simply say that it is a beautiful bow is a big understatement, a bow like that at around 43 # would be about as good as it gets bow for me. You are doing an awesome job with it, totally awesome. The bamboo that I have growing behind the house is better than nothing but fails big time compared to that kind. A bow to be truly proud of. James did you right.

Same method I use to heat treat Tonkin cane for bamboo fly rods. I like the way the grain of the boo shows. Gives it character like on your bow.

Looks very nice Randy, I hope it shoots as good as it looks. You and James did a great job, I hope it shoots as good as my Hummingbird, and tell James I said Hi. Kurt.

Been tweaking tiller. Welyin pointed out I had a hinge going on in the lower limb when we put it in his tiller tree. I was down at his place three days helping him take down some chimney s on his 1900 victorien house and a big pecan limb that was hanging over his shop and car port. 60 boom we rented was handy

Ran up to TJ Max and got a new luggage scale for $10. Now is still pulling 52# @28” so that’s nice
