This osage blank started out with the "string" about 8" off center. I tried dry heat twice and got about half of it. It's down to 4" off center now. Lateral moves are notoriously difficult to overcome with heat. Below is how I remedied this problem.

Jut about perfect now. The wedge is about .250" at the thick end.

how much time in the clamps?

Great idea. What glue did you use?

From: PEARL DRUMS

I use G Flex epoxy for all my glue jobs now. I leave it clamped until its cured. 24 hours is plenty.

Looks like it worked. Thinking outside the box. Hope you’ll post some pictures when it’s finished.

That's interesting, Chris. So you didn't cut it the whole way across... to minimize the chances of it breaking? And it looks like you drilled a hole at the end of the cut?... so it wouldn't split with the grain when you drove the wedge in?

Never saw that done before. Pretty neat.

From: Runner

Nice. I guess you could also cut out a wedge on the other side.

Good job PD, excellent!

Pretty darn slick.....

You got it, Jeff. I drilled that hole to stop the cut from splitting farther. It never made a noise as I tapped the wedge in. I had nothing to lose on this one. Heat wasn't going to move it any more than it already did. I plan to sand a 1/2" off the back side and then glue a 1/2" thick cap over that. That should make it as strong as needed.

Tried that with hickory a couple times . Got close to straight, but never quite their. Even pulled them with a small come along in the process.

Not sure I understand where a come along would be involved. But, we all do things differently.

Wow, that worked very well!

Thanks PD. Looks like a great idea. Please show us the finished bow when you get there.

I don't know a thing about bow building but I really admire the thinking outside the box Chris!

I put a 1/4 sawn cap on it last night. I'm not aware of a stronger cut of any wood species. IF there was going to be a problem, this stopped it.

I should mention. I thinned the "grip" down about a 1/2" to allow for the cap and a total of about 2". You don't want to leave the grip so deep that by the time you get it where you want it the cap is gone, or, too thin to do its job.
