I had much fun shooting my recently acquired Bear Polar this morning I thought I would post it. It was made in 1957 like me. I bought it off eBay for $81.28 delivered about 3 weeks ago. It had 60 years of dirt and what looked like tar, the leather grip and strike were badly decomposed, and the string was withered and shrunken, had to cut it off. I cleaned it, had to use 320 paper on much of it as the dirt and tar were impervious to acetone. Remove the old grip and strike, acetone worked well for that. After lightly going over the whole bow with 320 paper, 3 coats of wipe on poly rejuvenated the finish. New leather grip and strike shaped to match the original, and a new red/tan Flemish string, pure awesomeness. I really like this model, shoot fantastic. Post your Polar, and what you think of it.

Close up of the riser. This bow really likes my Menards "Select Pine" arrows. Called a Semi recurve in its day, I would call it a reflex reflex longbow

Lance I am sure they are great shooters, I guess the oldest version of the Polar is a back set longbow. I have never shot one of those. My brother had two Polars, both a little over 70 lbs, they shot very well.

Polar longbow 64" 66@28. A fine shooter. The year escapes me but a good bow is a good bow no matter the age.

Here is mine - target version. I love this bow. I believe it’s a 1963 66” and #38 at 28”. It’s in really good shape. It’ll be going for a whitetail this fall.

I take it back Chuck! I remembered that I have this 1964 56”-50# model that my girlfriend purchased for me. It’s great short bow. Very reminiscent of the 56” Grizzly! I’ll include a close up of the riser too! Lance

Craig, I cleaned it up and refinished it and I'm almost certain it's maple. Paul

This 1962 Polar , 51#, was a real shooter but we just couldn't settle into a groove. My third 1962 Polar. Now I have a 1961 Polar, 54#, that isn't quite so handsome but still a stunner with those 'Ice Blue' limbs and throws an arrow with authority.
