1816 XX75 Camo shafts have been discontinued. Those shooting this size are now left with Jazz and Platinum Plus. Not that there's anything wrong with these shafts but does appear Easton has been putting the squeeze on aluminum users lately.

Unfortunately it supply and demand. No demand, no supply.

1816 is my go to shaft. As I've dropped bow weight I found they fly the best from my bows ranging from 38-44#. As long as I can get Jazz I'll be happy.

They likely won't last long but eders.com has a dozen 1816 Camo Hunter shafts for $66 plus shipping. There are other places that have them between $95 and $115 a dozen for shafts.

love my 1816s

One advantage of getting older is that at the same rate a lifetime supply gets smaller. I just got 4 dozen 2117 Super Slams and consider that a lifetime supply.

Not a thing wrong with either of those shafts...Platinum or Jazz. They aren't discontinuing the size, just other models of that size. Back when I started, silver color shafts were the norm and killed game just fine. Jazz are a bargain.

Yup - I like the Jazz just fine against a forgiving backstop or (like deer hunting) when the cost of one shaft is negligible in the grand scheme.

I guess the 1816 just isn’t being used by many hunters anymore, but maybe 3R will save the day with a run of Autumn Orange…..

1816 is on the light side for many hunters but extremely popular for general sport and target archery. - lbg

.733 deflection, 9.3 grains/inch. (Which is heavier than most 500-600 spine carbons.)

Yep, what Dana said, it's not "light" compared to most carbon, especially of that spine.

Pretty sure he meant light SPINE, with which I’d not argue too strenuously.

I sprung for a dozen Platinum Plus to supplement the old Red Eagles and a half dozen Tributes I have. The color is a bit lighter than the original Platinums that I always said seem disappear like smoke in the woods but will be fine. Also have some of the silver XX75 George mentioned I use for stumping.

The Eagles and Tributes have glue on nocks that I have a lifetime supply of so I'm going to use a nock adapter on these 1816 Platinum Plus.

I weighed my 1816 shafts to see the difference. All are 28 3/4" long, 3- 4" fletch and crown wraps. Weights are all with a 125 gr. field point.

1816 - 434 gr.

600 - Big Jims -392 gr.

600 GT Classic Blems - 410 gr.

700 Big Jims - 372 gr.

It’d be more telling to know the average weights and the range for 5 or 10 of each shaft…. I’m gonna guess aluminum has the lowest variance and blems the highest.

I don't have five bare shafts of each to weigh. I would also expect aluminums to be the most consistent.

From: DanaC
Date: 28-May-23

I'd be more worried about spine variations than a few grains on e way or another.

From: Phil Magistro
Date: 28-May-23

In that case I'm willing to bet aluminum is more consistent that carbon.

I just ordered a dozen 1816 Jazz from Lancaster.

From: cecil

I took 6 new out of the pack they all weighed 297.1 I have already fletched the other 6.

From: Corax_latrans

You walked right into that one, Dana! LOL…

Not surprised at all by Cecil’s findings. Sometimes I forget why I ever stopped shooting aluminum, but then I hit a rock or the re-bar in a 3D target, and I see a shower of sparks… and then pick up a perfectly good carbon.

I never shot aluminum off of a trad bow til a couple months ago. They shoot by far better than any carbons I shot. They have reall helped my shooting. Not as durable but they shoot good

Easy to bare-shaft tune as well….
