Didn’t want to hijack Rick’s post. My question is what’s the difference’s in these super glue’s besides how thick or thin they are? So far I have tried Gorilla SG in blue cap bottle, Gateway Feathers SG, AAE SG, and another I bought at the hobby store. They seem to work for fletching feathers so far. Inserts, just say I am not pleased. SG doesn’t seem to be shock resistant to hard hits.

Your experience has been mine as well. All is well, unless you get a hard impact, and then it breaks the super glue. The Gorilla Gel in the white cap is a different glue. It does take a little cure time, but that stuff seems to work. Biggest hold back with it. Once it's in, you're done, no good way to remove it heat or.... Depending on what I have available at the moment, I still use hot melt glue for most of my insert applications. It's not perfect, but does okay.

I don't use it for bushings (inserts) in arrows, it's almost impossible to get them out without excess heat, and that can be problematic. Low temp hot melt works as good as anything on inserts, and it is much better when you need to remove them. People who can't get it to work usually are using too much, and you don't need the high temp stuff.

Superglue is cyanoacrylate, and all of it is likely the same except for viscosity.

This is a link to some pretty good information related to "super glues".

Gorilla Glue hot melt sticks will melt at medium temp heat and they are very "sticky" when liquified, meaning they stick to everything. Even my fingrs lol. They are tough but slightly "rubbery" or flexible, when cured too. They are much better than "super glue" for taking impacts and you have the ability to pull inserts easily by just heating the point, not the shaft.

I've tried all kinds of super glues for fletching. The DAP Rapid Fuse has worked the best of all of them. That said, it's still not as shock resistant as I like.

I'm currently using Bohning Flex Fuse, and it is working great for both vanes, and feathers, but I may be trying out some Goat Tuff sometime down the road just to check it out.

I don't use any type of CA glues for inserts/ouserts (ever). None of them are sock resistant enough for that. At least not enough for the beating my arrows are subjected to. I'm using the original orange label (expanding foam) Gorilla Glue for that, and it works great. Even for points on wood arrows.

Because it can be brushed on Gorilla brush and nozzle super glue has a set up tinr of up to 45 seconds. I find it much more useful than most.

Thanks for the info everyone. Since I have been involved with putting together arrows for my in-laws and a few folks at the club I have been trying different glues so I don’t have any on going repairs. The ladies (wife and her sister) have been able to pop inserts from their light weight bows by hitting the wood platform the targets are attached to. Even my “never had an issue “ golf shaft epoxy has let me down. So far Big Jim’s hot melt is working but I don’t like heat near carbon even for a few seconds. I wonder if those litters “O” rings that some points come with would help take up some shock? Rick, I did a couple of my arrows with original Gorilla glue but lost track which ones. So, I have to assume it works. But I am not n habit of hitting 1” plywood.

I like Loctite Ultragel control superglue (blue cap) for fletching as the glue comes out by pressing the side grips and doesn't set up between fletching sessions.

Whitetails2 x2. I use Hotmelt for inserts for all the reasons above.

Just an arm-chair archer but many thanks for all this useful info. Might come in handy in the future!

I guess I'm old school, 2 part, 5 minute epoxy, brand doesn't matter. I've never had an insert pull out nor had trouble getting them back out.

Super glue dries brittle & won't take impact. Often used in woodwork to hold parts together for cutting or sanding. Then a side impact will separate them. It withstands separation pulling but very little shear pressure. >>>----> Ken

I use the super glue for fletching but never inserts. Very hard to replace inserts when you do and when you put too much heat to the end of the arrow it discolors it. I have also had them split because of the heat.

When buying Loctite 420 for gluing cracks I looked at Loctite's website. One quickly realizes that not all CA glues are the same.

I just used Loctites selector and came up with Stick and Seal for extreme conditions. Set up time is also much longer than associated with most Super Glues.

Oops. On further exploration Stick and Seal is not a CA glue. Which simply illustrates what others are saying, match the product to intended use.

I tried some of the superglues that claim to have "additives" to increase shock resistence and improve shear. Not too happy with any of them.

An interesting glue, Black Eagle insert glue. They used to put in their own labeled bottle, now just sell the "Instabond IR- 1500" Black stuff. Dries pretty fast. Over about a decade, likely >100k shots, I have only had it fail a few times, and mainly after someone hit the wood with practice arrows. It also works amazingly well as a fletching glue, I started using a dab at front of fletching to keep feathers down, then tried full arrows. Downside is.. it is black and I seem to get it on the light colored feathers a bit. Dries "semi hard" like a really hard rubber, it is far harder to scrape off shafts than typical superglues. I only used on a single set of shafts made about 3 months back, so not much use yet, maybe a few thousand shots total, but nothing has failed to date.

They have an s-1000 that is clear, folks seem to like, all 5 star reviews, about 21. This thread got me to place an order and try it.
