Picked up some 1916 Autumn Orange traditional only’s. Cut to 29”. Bare shafts seem to shoot great with 125-150 out of a 40lb Liberty Chief longbow but my question is this. Is it normal to have a slight “ting” metallic sound at the shot? Or would that indicate I’m having shelf contact somewhere? I can’t see any wear marks on the arrow pad or strike plate and it’s isn’t overly loud, it’s just something I’m not used to hearing with carbons. So, metallic sound when shooting normal or no?

Might be your points are loose.

Definitely try a dab of wax (or hot-melt) on your threads; also right-wing should help, right?

Not normal. What’s your draw length?

27. I’m getting about 38/39lbs out of the bow probably. Makes the sound from 125gns all the way to 200gn tips. Bareshaft flight seems better towards the lower end. Haven’t shot any with feathers yet.

You have good ears, they do ping if stiff or your nocking point is low.

More like 37# so we those shafts might be too stiff causing them to bounce off the sight window and/or field points too loose.

The 200 grain points should fly the best.

If you buy more aluminums you might try 1816s with the poundage of the bows you shoot and your draw length James.

Was not sure if you built those from shafts or they eere allready built when you got them.

Anyway if you have any full length in the 1916s cut them longer than 29.Try 30 inches.

They should not make noise when shot.As said above you might be getting contact with shelf or sight window or loose point.

Is it possible anything is inside the shaft thats loose making noise James?

Nice talking with you last week.Hope you had fun at the shoot.

Cheers

If anything, this is good news to me that I might be over spined, i typically shoot 215- 250gns up from from 29” 600 spine axis. I have no problem loading up the front with 225gn tips if I have to to weaken these out. I love me a 575 grain finished arrow! Even from 40lbs. (Give or take).

Agree with Bowhunt. I shoot a set up very much the same and the 1816 shoot very well.

Tight nocks will cause that "ping" sound sometimes as well. But my guess is spine as mentioned.

Might try moving your nocking point 1/8”
