Awhile back this was a topic. Some guys use kool aid, others use dyes available from 3Rivers.

I user Rit fabric dye. Just follow the directions on the package. Richness of color is determined by how long you leave them in the solution. I've also used the dye offered by Great Northern bowhunting. Don't know if they still sell it.

Wild Fletching out of Peru Indiana makes a great dye for less than $10. Easy to use and makes great colors. PM me if you want some pics

I’ve used kool-aid with good success. Check out YouTube videos

Like above stated. I have used the Koo-Aid stuff with fairly good success. I also dyed some some buck tail and Elk for tying flies the same way. I found using a little vinegar in the solution helps to set the color. Another thing to be noted, make sure you read, and then re-read the packages. Sugar-less is not sugar free. The only color I was impressed by was the yellow. I am thinking about trying some cheap food coloring and doing basically the same process.

Rit dye works extremely well, I've dyed pounds of feathers with it.

The Rit website has all kinds of formulas for different colors. Use vinegar as mentioned as a fixative for the color, don't get the feathers too hot or they will be ruined. Rinse well when you take them out of the dye bath. Warm water to wash out/lighten the color and cold water to set it.

Red is the most difficult to make "fast" so dye it darker than you think you want it.

Black turns out better if you dye the feathers dark green or a similar color before dying black.

I strain the water off and lay them out on newspaper to dry.

Ive been using acid dyes from Dharma for years, really fast and lot of colors.

If you use Kool Aid, make sure you use some salt with it to set the dye.

Heres the Chartreuse version - it was "Lemon Lime" flavor and I added a drop or two of food coloring to make it more vibrant....wasn't sure if that would work but it did.
