Hey Bow sleuths and Tice and Watts geeks. Anyone know if the serial #’s help guide the bow’s date of birth?

Model: Spartan Hunter Mark 1, serial #10954

Maybe the best you can do is just call it an early'ish 1970's model. Tice and Watts came about in the 70's and mostly just as the compound was getting a good foothold, so they didn't last very long. The riser very much favors the Wing bows of the early 1970's and bow companies tended to follow trends back then. They did brag about their computer-designed bows back then as well, but all bowyers and bow companies did that as well. They tend to remain a mystery as to how many the made, and how the serial protocol ran. Beautiful bows.

Hey Mike:

I would be interested in that information as well as I have a small collection of those bows.I think George is spot-on with his information as usual, that is the best I have been able to find. My serial numbers range from 10356 to 11222.I have one close to yours at 10944.

Regards,Ray

Thanks George. It’s the only bow I’ve ever shot that feels lighter to pull than the pull weight and feels like it has let off near the end of the draw.

Spartan Hunter Mark I. No clue of year. Unfortunately probably a wall-hanger only, big splinter on lower limb.

One help in dating them is to know that the company was called Archery Engineering Co. before it was called Tice & Watts. So check your decals.

Here's one of mine--the bow on the left; a Spartan Hunter Mark 1 with ser. #11081.

Well what about this theory- 3 digit serial #’s are Archery Engineering (earlier, so late 60’s) and 5 digit serial #’s are Tice and Watts (later 60’s and early 70’s)?

Lance (Knifeguy) and I have been wondering about any of this- he has a serial # of 10860 on his Spartan Hunter fyi
