The item on the right with the wooden handle and wide White canvas strap. Does anyone have any idea what it could be. Got all this stuff at the $2.00 table. The meat saw is what I wanted. But ended up buying those WWI military entrenching tools. And you can always use a gaff!;)

Kind of reminds me of a vintage boson chair but the hardware looks a little light weight. Maybe some type of log drag. Nice find!

I came across one of those odd thingamajigs 30 years ago shopping antique stores. I asked the shopkeeper what it was and he told me but man I can't remember what he said it was for. Hopefully someone on here will know.

$10 bucks there? Good deal!

Lifting strap/sling?

my Dad mde a small scooper like that in stainless steel (shaft & grip also) for our trapline when I was about 9. It's on the tool wall in my shop now. Handy little thing, I use it a lot.

I don't know what it is but I like it.

I've always liked the look of old worn tools since I was kid working on my friend's pap's farm.

Cool stuff you found Don and I hope someone will have the answer to the mystery strap.

Deer pull. Wrap strap around neck and use both hands behind back to pull.

From: iowacedarshooter

yep that would work for a deer pull. i will second what joey said.

Similar to a hand assist climer. Probably a drag. >>>----> Ken

It could be for logging? The hook would be for a chain if it was too heavy for the handle.

Maybe for block ice or lifting stones?

From: ottertails

Hey Joey, you joking? Drag a deer with that thing, short strap and all...you'll have antlers poking your behind!

I wish I would've bought that thing back in day, it was cheap enough, I was on the hunt back then for antiques for our log home and barn...and then I would know what it is....I think ;))

Geezlefexit…definitely that or a humpamadinger.

Just guessing, it could be used to help someone climb out of a trench?

It for haling blocks of ice in to house and apartments Ice boxes before refrigerator.

With the little hook you could imagine this being used to weigh something on a hanging scale, something fragile enough you want a wide strap holding it up. Use handle to lift up the burden, someone helps put on the hook, off you go.

One example: weigh smaller livestock at birth? Lambs or such? Modern ones are more like a small harness..

What is really interesting to me: I used google image search, which has identified several things for me in past.. this time NOTHING like this appeared. Suggests it could be a one off handmade by someone for their unique need.

That sling; a log or torpedo carrier?

From: South Farm
Date: 27-Sep-22

My Dad gave me an identical trenching shovel years ago, so pretty cool to see one just like it. I used it for trapping gophers, and giving them a good whack on the head if need be! Anyway, who knew $2.00 could get you so much in this day and age?!?

Put the strap under your arm pits, snap the hook on a steel cable, hang on to the handle, and ride it down to safety? LIneman? Rigworker?

From: Rick Barbee
Date: 27-Sep-22

I'm not sure what the strap is, but back in my power line building days we used something almost identical to it for moving power line poles.

Mainly for shifting one end, or the other of the pole to get it lined up, and started into the hole we'd just drilled for it.

Well we got a lot of good answers here. But I’m not sure if we nailed it yet. Heck I knew it wasn’t a chicken leg grabber whatsamcallit thingermigger doohickey thingy anyhow!;)

The thing on the right is, i believe, used for picking up snakes. Check out some videos.

From: 4nolz@work

I posted it on a FB vintage tools page and no one knows-general guess is something for blocks of ice

Whatever it is, it's a good find for $2... so is everything else. Good job Mr. Scavenger!

Every once in a while I take a chance on an odd item I have no clue what it is. Some times 2 bucks can pay off big! ;)

I sent a photo of that sling to a friend of mine who has been a collector of many things for many years and he seems to think like a few others on here that it is used to carry logs or pipes. Two man carry sling.

From: 2 bears
Date: 28-Sep-22

I believe Jon got it. A man on each side & the same on the other end to carry pipe or logs. >>>---> Ken

That hook thingy looks like a snake handling hook...
