Good luck Saturday. Went for a ride yesterday and one of my favorite hunting spots got sold and is now posted. That life for a western Pa. Hunter. : )

Will, good luck to you this season, stay safe! Sorry about your spot getting sold, that's a bummer.

I live and hunt in 2B so we opened on the 17th. I killed a nice doe at 7 am on the 17th. I was out this past Saturday and saw 3 buck, a spike and 2, 4 points. I'll be back out this coming Saturday and every chance I get the rest of the season. My work schedule gets in the way of my hunting time lol.

Why does that 2B zone open early? We have a few in NJ too. I live and hunt in one but didnt get out. Our state wide opens this Saturday too.

2B (and 5C, and 5D) opens earlier and ends a little later than most of the state but has stricter antler restrictions.

Frank the early areas by us is doe problems. You must shoot a doe before you can shoot a buck. Last year i had a 5 yard shot on a 8 pt but all i did was watch him walk. Torture! Regular season that doesnt apply.

George, Frank, Will, Jim, & other PAers/N.J.ers

Sometimes, there are those of us who have a tough time relating to your guys/gals plights when it comes to bowhunting whitetails. You have an archer behind or in every tree it seems from the stories that are relayed to us. You have so many hoops you must jump through to get an opportunity to even go after a buck in your areas and it must certainly be frustrating. I admire your wherewithal, patience, and dedication to your art and Love of bowhunting. I wish you all the very best of skill this fall in your endeavors and will pray that you have a great fall season and safe times afield.

I've been bowhunting here in 1A... for squirrels. Was out today, didn't see a single living critter.

I did find two sheepshead mushrooms though and got some good exercise brushbusting and climbing hills. The woods get worse every year with multiflora rose. It's a thorny jungle out there.

Yes, I wish all a fun, and above all, a safe season here in Pennsylvania. I will be out looking for a nice buck and scouting for the archery bear season in a few weeks. Blessings to all!

I am sitting here reading these threads, eating last year's loin roast that my life just

cooked, and thinking Saturday is coming fast. Why I am still not ready ?

Depends on what part of the state you're in regarding crowded conditions. I imagine Frank and the other guys closer to Pittsburgh have more issues with that, same with the guys near the Philadelphia area.

Here in S.C. area there are fewer people to begin with, so we aren't so bothered in our woods. Even in rifle season it's only a shadow of what it was back in the 60's and 70's around here. The old guard is dying away and Gen-X is attached to their apps and applets and not taking up hunting like younguns did years ago.

I found out a few hours ago the little woodlot behind the house (that I've bowhunted in for 36 years) is now off limits. The family farm has now gone to the next generation and they all have kids who bowhunt. Ah crap!

Good news is we procrastinated and didn't get the stands up yet. Bad news is everything around here is posted except the overcrowded game lands.

Four days until the opener. Ah crap!

Sorry to hear that Red, does that include the bag course?

Been out sneak hunting a couple of times in 2B. Seen a nice 8pt but then found 3 trail cams watching his area, 6 tree stands and a tree house:( Seen 5 single does, that's unusual for me.

Watched a red fox play with a mole or a mouse in a over grown field. Could watch the weeds move and then he would repeatedly pounce, all with in 20 yards or so of me.

Yeah I live in 2B as well but I mostly hunt 2C near Donegal. I love hunting and most of my friends hunt but I can honestly say there is nobody that I hate more than a PA Deer Hunter( Even tho I am one of them). The majority of them have no respect for sport or for their fellow hunters. It’s worse in 2B. I call them the housing plan hunters. You know the guys that have 30 trail cams out and bait all summer and then shoot a giant buck 30 yds between two Ryan Plan Homes with a crossbow 5 minutes into opening day and then act like they accomplished something. Ever see 10 guys put on a drive thru a 60 yd plot of woods between your neighbors sheds in September with crossbows? I see it all the time. Me I’ll make the hour drive just to get away from them for a peaceful day in the woods. My chances may not be as good to bag a huge buck but I just enjoy the mountains and peace and quiet

Hawkeye,

Hog Alley bag course is allowed to stay as well as hunting groundhogs and general stumping. They just want the kids to have a place to bowhunt. Totally understand.

I'm glad I can still use "my" woods the rest of the year. It's been my favorite place on earth since I was a kid hunting chipmunks with a BB gun. Heck, my kids are to spread my ashes there someday. Lance knows to make sure he dumps some in the groundhog holes. :)

Now Lance, Merrill, and I have to come up with Plan B real quick! Adapt and overcome! :)

Hunting in pennsylvania can certainly have its moments of frustration. The amount of treestands and cameras in the woods is at times astounding. Its a constant game of cat and mouse trying to avoid other hunters and acquire new land.

I still go but its just not the same. Truth be told i much more enjoy just shooting, but hunting season is more or less the only time i hear from the guys anymore and i enjoy that aspect of it.

Good luck everyone. I primarily hunt 5B, but the farm I hunted at for the past few years was just sold to a real estate developer and posted signs went up last week. Fortunately, I have plenty of state game lands nearby. I probably won’t hunt them on opening day. I’m more of a late season/cold weather fan anyway.

I feel your pain Red, same thing happened to me about 10 years ago. However that disappointment turned out to be a blessing in the long run. I started researching the Hunter Access Program on the PGC website. I found 4 different parcels within 15 minutes drive that gave me access to over 300 acres. After developing a relationship with those landowners, they in turn gave me names of other landowners. Most of them said no but a couple did grant permission. Over the years I have become less shy about asking for permission to hunt. I will admit that the success ration is below 10% but just like asking girls to the high school dance, you don't know until you ask and sometimes you will be pleasantly surprised. Ever since then I work on plans B,C, & D even though I don't need them.....Yet!

I gave up on 2 B. I did not have a good place to hunt ( alone ), Now I only hunt 2 A. Two

land owners I have known for twenty years. One I can only hunt on Fridays. That is when

the wife works and won't be home to see me kill the deer that eats her flowers.

Covid hit the family this week. The wife, son, daughter in-law and one granddaughter all got it. Me and my other six year old granddaughter did not get it and we are having a blast in quarantine from the others. LOL! I will not get out and hunt today but we are playing Barbie dolls big time! Good luck to all the PA guys!

From: Jeff Durnell
Date: 01-Oct-22

I worked today. Now I'm canning tomato sauce. Tomorrow would be an excellent day to go out sneaking following the rain... but it's Sunday. No hunting on Sunday. Plus I'm working, probably a double shift... blasphemy! But vacation starts Thursday and then I'm off 5 weeks straight. Haven't had a sick day or vacation day since this time last year. I'm a little anxious to spend some quality time in the woods.

Good luck to all. Be careful. And above all else, I hope you enjoy every minute.

Let us prey.

My season started September 17th. I've been out hunting every day except for today. Rained all day today. :( Retirement is great. Good luck to everyone and be safe.

From: hvac tech

Got up this morning and watched it rain then decided to go and buy material for a job i will be doing in two weeks . This is the first day of my retirement and it feels like i should be hunting but the rain changed that. But i know Monday will be here and i can bow hunt so i will sit tight.

Conspire monsoon and a wash out all day I’ll get out this week hopefully.

From: George D. Stout

We needed the rain here more than I needed a deer so I'm okay with a wet weekend. At least no 100+ MPH winds that tear roofs off or downpours that wash away houses. We're pretty fortunate to be where we are, all in all.

Some of us are a bit touched, maybe lacking a bit upstairs.

I got up at 3:00 AM....just in case.

kept looking at the weather radar etc....My spot in mind was a good solid 1 1/2 hr hike over the mt...backside solid laurel...i knew id be soaked to the skin going through it...so stayed home, took the wife out for breakfast.

But got back home, and decided to go, but stay on the front side of the mt......hunted till 5:45....got soaked, didn't see a thing...even the squirrels had more sense.

but were into'er now....seasons on.

Since my lifelong hunting spot got posted on Monday I've been scrambling. I figured the Game Lands a couple miles from here is the logical first place to do some recon.

I intended to do a long stillhunt Saturday but the rain kept me inside. By the middle of the afternoon I couldn't take it anymore and drove over to confirm what I was seeing on the map.

Almost hit three deer as I left the parking area. :)

Yup, pretty much a washout. I’ll get out a few evenings later in the week.
