I have brass sight/quiver inserts that I want to install in a wooden recurve, so I can use my beloved Kwikee quivers. The instructions say use a size letter N drill bit (decimal measurement 0.3020). I can find the letter size bits online, but I just went to Lowe’s and they’ve never heard of such sizes. I’ll try Menard’s & Harbor Freight tomorrow. If I can’t find a size N, my question is - should I order the correct bit or just use the closest smaller size & ream the holes out a bit? Anybody done this before? Thanks in advance.

If they are AMO Riser Inserts for a quiver.
Simple to install using ¼" or letter 'N' drill bit. Drill two 3/8" deep holes spaced 1-5/16" apart. Tap into place gently until flush with surface. The sharp flanges hold insert without the use of glue or expansion. I put a little eboxy on mine.

I have a 1/4” bit. Maybe i’ll try it on a piece of 2x4 first. The letter N bit it calls for is a tad smaller than 1/4.

Nemophilist, thanks. I’ve had this pack for 25 years or so. I’m sure they just clarified the instructions. It’s the same insert. Clint

A 1/4 drill would be too small. Drill sizes come in fractions, letters and numbers. Buy the correct size. If you know a machinist, they maybe able to lend you one.

I think the Kwikee quivers have the best and quietest arrow grippers on the market. Even the older ones were superior to all the othrrs.

Thanks for the info, guys. I did find a cheap 19/64”, which is very close to N. I’m going to play around with a block of wood before I drill the bow.

Guy's: Twist drills come in fractional, usually 1/16"-1/2", number #1-60 and letter, A-Z. Hardware stores usually only carry fractional, but the other two are available from Amazon, or eBay. Harbor Freight has all of them in one card file, which is an excellent investment, if you drill a lot of precession holes.

A good hardware store might have "N" drills. The 19/64 drill will probably work it is about. 006 smaller. I use a bow wart from the people who make spinrite cresters. No drilling needed

While you are at it, be sure to use a drill stop to ensure proper depth.

If you didn't want to drill any holes you can use heavy duty double sided mounting tape like 30# or more directly on the Kwikee Kwiver bracket.

Be aware if you don't drill a pilot hole first the drill will drill over size. I would use a 1/4" pilot hole first then the 19/64"

I’ve drilled inserts into many risers, a drill press works best, hand spin the bit a few turns on the riser before drilling. It will keep the wood from splintering on the edges. I usually put a piece of painters tape on the riser and drill thru that as well. Take your time and good luck. John
