I really wasn't going to share this, but after seeing the recent rash of threads about hunters trying hard to hang in despite back pain and all manner of health issues, I decided that it might well be a public serivce announcement of sorts. Over the last few years I had noticed that I had pain at the base of my gluteus (butt). It was worse on the left and then gradual worsened and the left side started. It was never an issue during regular activity but became obvious under two circumstancs: driving long distances, and sitting quietly in the tree stand. As it was slowly getting worse over the years I finally had it evaluated by my Orthopedist who made the clinical diagnosos right off but had it fully evaluated by MRI. It is due to partial tears in the hamstrings at the insertion. This is apparently much more common than we recognize. There are not a lot of options for management and initialy PT did not help. However, I have persisted with the stretching and strengthening and I believe that it has improved. There is an injectible therapy that MAY help but I have done a lot of reading on it, and not yet ready to go down that road. I did pretty well in the stand yesterday with my first outing. BTW this is called hamstring tendonopathy. Just an FYI

Thanks for sharing your story and I hope it can help someone here dealing with the same issue.

I also hope you are able to fully heal and get out and hunt without any pain in the butt!

Thanks for the info. I chased after the grandson a few years ago and those muscles lock up and I ended up head over heals and on my back. Doc said I was extremely lucky as I almost tore them off. Bruised for months. Lesson learnt, LOL

Best of luck this season.

How my pain started back in 2017. Left side down leg to foot. But worst in my knee area. Thought I needed a new knee. But it went away until this past Christmas. MRI and X-rays show to crushed disks. So Ortho says nerves in that area radiating to my butt.

I had something similar. Turned out to be peripheral arthritis. It affects all muscles. Starting in the butt, legs, feet and then all over. Into my arms neck, everything. Miserable.Rheumatologist figured it out. Not good. It made everything tight and hurt like crazy. I've been doing a Humera injection every 2 weeks. It's helped a lot. JF

Very interesting additional comments, which indeed I am sorry to hear. I guess that was my point in posting this. There are a variety of pains and disabilities that get us, and the CORRECT diagnosis is the only way to get onto the right path. I hope that you all get some benefit from diagnosis and treatment. Let me go out on a limb here: see your doctor, get the right diagnosis, and just maybe you will be able to stay in the game.

This does make hard to practice and be comfortable hunting with my Longbow. JF
