So I've been wanting to drop down in weight. I ordered a 3 piece long bow from a VERY reputable bowyer. I ordered it 44 pounds at 58 inches.

I got the bow and it looked fine. I began tuning it and when I was doing my measurements for string silencers I find it is a 53" string, not 55" as it should have been for a 58" bow.

Yup, he sent me a 56 instead of a 58. So now what do I do, he hasn't responded to my email. I think I'll call him tomorrow and see what he can/will do. I've just never had something like this happen before.

A "VERY reputable bowyer" will most likely send you the correct string, and if you're in a hurry for it, they'll likely express ship it to you.

Just have to talk to whoever it is. The phone call is a good idea, and probably the best way to deal with it.

what length is marked on the bow?

if you ordered a 58 inch length bow, there should be a record of it either on your order form or, the bowyers order confirmation and/or receipt.

i would call and talk to him. i'm sure he will make it right.

Yeah Rick, it's not the string, well it is, but the limbs are wrong. Yes, the order form does say it's for a 58 inch bow, not 56. I also paid through PayPal so I have that to fall back on, I just hope he's willing to do the right thing and exchange the limbs.

If you bought a 58" bow then that what you should get from your "reputable" bowyer. This kind of stuff is happening more and more. If you let him/her get away with it they will continue to do business this way.

Oh I get it. I miss read your comment. Sorry.

Wrong length bow.

If I was in the frame of mind to wait for another bow of the requested specs, that's what I would do. If not, I'd ask for a refund, and return shipping funding.

Same thing applies though. A VERY reputable bowyer is going to accommodate your wishes, and make things right, and a phone call is still the best way to approach it.

Jon, unfortunately you are correct. It does appear to be happening more, seems a loss of integrity. Hopefully JusPassin can call the bowyer and everything will get handled appropriately. That's the best way to start I think.

Perhaps it was an honest mistake and will be resolved quickly. It sucks having to wait the over the weekend for folks to get back to work.

call the man, visit, begin respectfully, quietly state the issue that you wanted the 58" bow, ordered it that way, and did not get it. don't get belligerent or accusatory right off the bat, I tend to get confrontational myself, it's not good, I had to learn, and I do struggle with it. keep us posted how it goes. Good luck.

I think all agree a phone call is in order. In all the bows I've bought over the years this is a first. I do think it is just some sort of snafu, maybe labeling or some such. I'll find out tomorrow.

The "VERY reputable bowyer" should take care of this.

One phone call and all is well..... No email as hunting was being done. Shouldn't have been such a worry wart.

All is well that ends well, good customer service is best.
