4 arrows.
3 broadhead tipped arrows and 1 small game point.
I never ran out of the broadhead arrows but I lost quite a few of the small game point arrows shooting at squirrels, especially in my youth.

At least a dozen. Six broadheads and a handful of small game heads, usually a judo in there too.
I ran out once years ago when I carried fewer arrows and had a busy hunt. When I hunt, I don't just hunt deer.

5 broadheads, one blunt, in a bowmate side quiver. Sit with an arrow on the string and an arrow with the broadhead in the foam of the side quiver, but the shaft is outside with the quiver on my right side, leaning against the tree. That easy access second arrow has been useful more than once.

I use a 4-arrow quiver, 3 arrows with broadheads, 1 blunt with backer and an extra broadhead in the quiver. Usually, no problem. Ran out of arrows once when I spined a doe from my climber and the doe dragged itself in/out some bushes. Had to climb down and retrieve an arrow to finish her off. Had a 3-arrow quiver then.

Seven broad heads and three or four steel blunts for small game during the big game seasons, or more. Lots more for small game, usually mixed between blunts and broadheads.
A friend, when much younger, lost his four or five arrows chasing a yearling bear around and had to beg/borrow/steal half of my arrows to finish the elk hunt. The bear kept bailing out of the trees and in thick brush and then treeing again. I suspect a shaking bow had a lot to do with it in our teenage years, especially when blackie was coming down the tree. He never did stick an arrow in him--and then he wanted to "borrow" mine?!

As a kid we had a 3d range and many deer that frequented our yard. At 11 I could shoot and consistently hit what I was shooting at with a compound as long as it wasn't a deer! Cone end of 3d season dad put a feeder in front of the club house and I could go "hunt" after school. I would shoot my 3 arrows go get them and get back in the blind it was very frustrating till I finally made a perfect shot on a young doe and it was like something clicked and yet to miss since. I now carry 5 arrows and haven't ran out since my first season bow hunting.

7 in the GFA. 4 A team arrows, 2 grousers that could be used as a back up, and a stumper.
I got close about 5 years ago. I stalked a bear to 17ish and made a decent hit. It took off running and I followed it 50yds(fairly open country). It got to a stand of a few pines and grabbed one, climbed, and stopped 6 feet up. I rushed it and shot it again at 10ish paces. Good hit. It climbed higher and kept making a ruckus. I kept shooting until he stopped moving. Used 4 arrows. He died in the tree and it was quite freaky shaking hands with him and pulling the pin cushion out of the tree!

I used to load up my Catquiver with about 8, since that was bow many broadheads I owned and I could get them all arranged in there without crushing any fletchings. Then I had one or two flu-flus on the outside for shooting throughout the day. The one thing about a Catquiver that can be a bit problematic is that all of your arrows have to be exactly the same length, and FP, Judos and BH can all be a little different in length, so in addition to providing more space for the flu-flu fletch, letting those arrows tide outside as in this pic eliminated the length issue for me.
I suppose some would say that carrying 8 BH-tipped arrows is a bit ridiculous when 4 should be way more than enough for any SEASON, let alone a day-trip, but when you’re in a spot where it would literally take 4-6 hours to get to your reserve supply and back, an extra 6 ounces of “ammo” seems pretty trivial to me.

4 broadhead plus 1 with a field point. I'll shoot the field point before I get down or at the spot the deer was standing if I get a shot. After I get one on the string and settle down I lift one up above the others feathers in the quiver( hanging on a hook at side of the stand) so it comes out quiet and not scraping the other fletchings on the others.

4 or 5, depending on which bow quiver I use. I don't think I've ever taken anything but broadheads hunting. My luck, I'd shoot at a squirrel or rabbit only to be laughed at by the great-granddaddy of the woods as he ran the opposite direction.

If I didn't carry a load of blunts along for the ride, then days like this wouldn't be able to happen when out hunting elk. Yep, I'll divert from an elk stalk to shoot grouse. :)

Must be something in the Idaho air, Sunset Hill. I do the same thing and love every minute of it, even if the bulls are bugling.

Nate Steen …..
My bucket list is to shoot a grouse in Elk country with a straight bow , back quiver full of woodies whilst I can hear elk bugling in the back ground ….
Blunts work for the grouse ?

Deer just aren't the be-all, end-all to me anymore and overall I have more fun hunting small game. Besides, I've killed small game and/or varmints and then shot deer moments later. On two different occasions it was groundhogs and 8pt bucks without moving from the place I was standing. So the idea that a deer may be nearby doesn't stop me from hunting and shooting other critters. Big part of why I like stillhunting.
Some of my best squirrel hunts were in big buck country in prime chase phase or peak rut. My camp mates thought I was nuts, but they sat staring at the same tree all day while I was having the time of my life, nonstop action, and brought home dinner. I like to have plenty of arrows with appropriate heads for whatever is in season at the time. Different strokes...

O Ya, I have carried judo's for a long time. Shot a few grouse in Idaho elk hunting and am always on the lookout for grouse here in WI deer hunting. Best eating bird out there, takes a lot of begging to get me to give a taste of them!!!

Same as Supernaut...3 broadheads, 1 Judo...UNLESS I'm elk hunting, then I take 2 extra broadheads. You hope it doesn't but if something goes wrong you don't want to have to trudge 5 miles back to camp for a coupe de' grace arrow!

4 or 5 usually, and yep I've emptied my quiver twice way back when I started. Once I missed 3 deer then shot a squirrel off the side of a tree with a hex head. The other time I missed 2 shots on the same doe and then proceeded to center-punch leaves around the stand with my last 3 arrows.

yeah, grouse / squirrels / rabbits....I'm easily diverted from my "focused" game hunt. And so I need arrows stuffed into my backquiver because I'm always roaming around shooting arrows even during a hunt. Due to the ground out here being rocky, I damage arrows and need backups. Years ago, I tried a bowquiver because they look cool. I felt half naked with only 4 or 5 arrows. Just doesn't work for me.
Ben, yes, I just use .357 shell casings loaded with melted lead as a blunt for 75% of my small game hunting including grouse. Sometimes a .357 blunt with a wing nut attached. The rest of the time I use rubber blunts and they also work well.

There's always 4 broadheads and one blunt tipped arrow for stump shooting in my Great Northern quiver during hunting season.

Toughest game on the planet, applalachian gmt gray squirrel, and these are the killers. Especially my mini broadheads! E- clip over a 357 case, little jb weld makes hold up. Made a bunch of em about 15 years ago, got 5-6 left.

Forget which size e-clip, but knock yhe primer out, indent the shell case, it snaps right on, little jb-weld, they are tough! File the rounded edge razor sharp easily!

It's a squirrel snuffer! Easy and fun to make. Of course you can convert old prior used arrows over to squirrel arrows which is usually the case, but when I made up a bunch just for squirrel arrows, I used 2 feathers for fetching with a little extra helical, they fly like darts!

Once I took two. Used them both. Never again did I take two. About 5 now, 4 with broadheads and one for small game. Sometimes a back quiver full of flu flu with rubber blunts and broadheads ( for geese )
