What years was the Century 21 produced by Damon Howatt? Are you able to determine the year of production with the serial number? Thanks

Late 1960 through early 1961… I just need the 3 letter serial (ECY) and the numbers that follow. Also, what is the written draw weight and length…?

Looks like it was available in 1962 as well from the ad. That's interesting that its name commemorated a fair going on then in Seattle. I remember Larry saying on here before that it was the last bow that Damon personally designed.

based on the Howatt serial numbers in the database we are maintaining, the serials stop at early 1961 for the Catalina Century 21 model… now that’s when the bows were built, not sold so they may have had inventory available in 1962 hence the ad you posted… or it’s possible the ad was purchased in advance into 1962…

Can anyone tell about how many were made?

From: 1888bc

Suedog - no one can answer that since the serial records were lost or nowhere to be found. I would be surprised if Larry can answer that question, but you never know... Larry is more difficult to get responses from as time clicks on... So far, we have located 15 Catalina Century 21 bows and documented all details about them... I'm currently holding and updating the master record for all vintage Howatt serials from the early 1950's to 1971... It's been an ongoing project for a few years now...

We need some close up pictures for Batman. Anyone else care to share?

Mark, what is it that you need…?

I'd like to see the riser lay ups and tips. How much phenolic vs Rosewood? What about those thumb flairs! This era Howatts are just spectacular.

The serial number is written on the sight window. The bow is in rough shape. Here is a picture of the serial number. I think it is EDC 69525-L.

I wonder if Larry Hatfield or Pdiddly could give some input.

I am a little concerned that the serial number starts with EDC (or CDC) instead of ECY.

Thanks

202md… no cause for concern as this is the 2nd mis-marked C21 we have documented in the Howatt database so far… the other was made right after this one… Pdiddly is aware of this too as we work together on updating this information…

too good looking!!!! thanks

Compare that bow to what everyone else, including Bear, was making in 1961!

And people ask why I collect Howatt’s…

Mark,,,How come it looks better , now that its at yours House ,,LOL. That is just over the top design though. Its a gem for sure. I hope I can run across another one. But I doubt it will happen. THat won't keep me from searching.

The thrill of the hunt. Mark, How does it shoot for you?

From: Suedog
Date: 20-Sep-22

I had to find the grip.

I generally like a low wrist and didn't accept the thumb rest at first.

Once I accepted the thumb rest for the function Mr. Howatt designed it for, I let the rest of my hand fall into place. Only then did the bow quiet and perform like the precision instrument it is.

I am not worthy. Only blessed to be caretaker for now.

Thank again Tom Murphy.

From: Murph
Date: 20-Sep-22

That thumb rest is a trip. But once you truely get a hold of it like you did. You know you got a hold of a serious bow. I mean one that means business. Enjoy My friend. And thanks for the trade. I shot the Korte tonight. My wife says its the prettiest bow I ever have had. And I've had alot.

I've had 2 Century 21s. I no longer have them. Personally, I much prefer the 1961 Catalinas. For shooting, at least. They don't look too shabby, either. Here's one that was restored by Larry St. Laurent.
