I think Batman has seen all my bows, so I'll just post a picture of the one I'm shooting now and going to bow hunt with this year. It's a 1971 Bear Super Magnum (55#@28" / 48"amo).

I bought an old Herters CV17 recurve to refinish, then found that the limb tips were starting to split. With some ideas from Bowdoc's repair document and courage from 2bears, I pulled off a bow refinish and a G10 tip laminating job. Some good folks here; in person and in sprit.

I have gotten lazy in selling bows whose phone number I stopped answering. You know how it goes..fickle as the wind when there's so many pretty girls to dance with. But I am cracking open the little red book for Batman for entertainment purposes only.

This is left handed 1959 Bear Grizzly, 55#, that I bought from a young fella on Craigslist who said he found it cleaning out his aunts garage. When I met him I couldn't help but notice that the coin, a first in 1959, had been pried out. But its a mighty fine shooter and missing jewelry is an opportunity, not a defect. I am still working on refinishing this bow, but in the meantime the 3/8" ratchet drive on the Craftsman socket set my Dad gave me in 1973 stopped working, so off to Sears I went. They let me pick a 'new' one out of their bucket of re-built ratchets, but they didn't want mine because it was so old. When I got home I couldnt help but notice that the drive direction selector disc was worn down from chrome to nickel to copper. I grew up in a family where knowing the steps and science of chrome plating was required, so I thought that was interesting. Then I also noticed that the selector disc looked mighty close to the size of a nickel, and I'd seem some early Bear coin-bows which looked mighy handsome with an Indian/Buffalo nickel in the place of a lost coin. So now I have a 1959 Grizzly that is equipped with a top-secret aiming mechanism that 'ratchets' up or down to adjust for distance and elevation , although at 55# she spits arrows so fast that there isn't much need to elevate.

Here's another left-handed bow I picked up on eBay for $38 a few years ago. No labels, no writing, no stamped numbers. But I know a celebrity when I see one. She's a 1956 Howatt Mamba Sharpshooter, their top of the line bow at the time. But this one is missing the factory leather wrap grip, as well as those decals ,stamp and writing. Larry Hatfield has passed along her on LW how Damon Howatt another Howatt bowyer were shooting critters and found an old flint knapped-edge tool,, picked it up and it was used to skiv every leather wrap grip on every Damon Howatt bow sold with a grip thereafter. The mystery was solved by a patch of orange filler in the deepest part of the grip. The bowyer shaping this bow on a belt sander caught the edge of the belt in the inner curve of the grip and left a groove. Into the trash can it went ( you can find pics of those trash cans filled with bows in the Damon Howatt shop) and out the back door it went, probably the same afternoon! An employee filled that groove and finished it at home and its been looking for a dance partner ever since. This 66 y.o guy and that long, leggy, mighty purty 66 y.o. gal can cut a rug 'til the cows come home.
