Man, this summer went rolling by all to quick. Like Paul said 3 weeks away and going fast.

Those that have never been to Shade, you need to try it at least once, it's got that "home knit" feel going on.

Some good target shots set up, a super challenging course set up, novelties set up, practice bales set up, we usually have some kind of music going on Saturday night around the campfire and on and on.

I have not even gotten into the food yet.....breakfast, lunch, and supper and a Chicken BBQ on Saturday that would make Col. Sanders proud!

Seriously, give us a whirl and see what you think!

Hey guys, don't let the "early bird" campers scare you off.

There are some very nice camping spots down along the creek, especially if you are tenting or pulling something like JSweka has. Away from all the hustle and bustle and put to sleep at night listening to the Great Horned if you are lucky. It would be my choice if I was setting camp, also a job johnny will be set up down there also.

Coming way to fast now.........

Yep, trading all day, we tried the "designated time" thing, that did not go over real big.

So folks wheel and deal all during the shoot, that worked out better.

J&M Traditions will be there, as will Marc Lauver on Saturday with some of his beautiful bows for sale.

It is going to be a great shoot, try to get there if you can....they'll be marching in soon!

Getting closer, John

From: monkeyball
Date: 07-Sep-22

The Ironman should be getting finished up by today, if not already.

For those that have never participated in this particular event......you enter with one arrow. There will be somewhere around 8 targets total + or -

The last target is the one below, the bionic (iron buck).

As you shoot thru the course your arrow must remain intact and safely shootable. Must have a nock and a point intact. Any arrow broken, or missing point or nock, or lost, gats you disqualified. There will be a time allowance to look for lost arrows.

Scoring will be discussed at the beginning and the bionic buck will be the last target shot for those still in the game.

All shots must be ATTEMPTED......if the judge and present participants agree that the shot was a "SAFE MISS" shooter will be DQed.

It's just about here folks, and whether you shoot the Ironman or not, this shoot is going to be the place to be this weekend!

Hope to see a bunch of you there.

Is there going to be a trade blanket time/day for people to sell or trade goods?

From: kaw369
Date: 07-Sep-22

Can anyone tell me just how Shade Mt. got its name. I always get asked if I have anything to do with Shade Mt. since my last name is Shade. It is that or the winery. LOL Thanks in advance! Just asking? Curious...

Kaw369, i’ll take a stab but prob for Shade Mt which is close to the club.

From: jsweka
Date: 07-Sep-22

“All shots must be ATTEMPTED......if the judge and present participants agree that the shot was a "SAFE MISS" shooter will be DQed.”

That’s the “Sweka” rule that was put in place after I intentionally dinked a shot a couple years ago.

Monkeyball was ahead of me in the points department and I knew the only way I could beat him was if he lost or broke his arrow. So on a particularly frightening shot, I pulled the string back about six inches and shot the arrow about three feet hoping I would still have an intact arrow and Monkeyball would have a wreck. I still lost.

From: Yewbender
Date: 07-Sep-22

Oh yes, the “SWEKA RULE” thanks to our good ole pal Sweka. I almost forgot. He sure messed things up for use because he wasn’t good enough to flub a shot!

Chicken is looking good. Had a fine shoot yesterday; shot with Rich, Maggie and a fine gentleman who's name escapes me. They were from the Harrisburg area. Super people. Linked up with Carol Covington and John Merrick, shot with these fine two people and had a helluva grand time. Was going to return this afternoon after spending time at the Ford FE race and reunion with my grandson Sal. However, 5:30 this morning Sal ended up taking me to the ER at Shamokin. Determined I have a kidney stone, but let's not get sick on the weekend. No urologist on call, no beds at Danville, Load me up with pain/nausea medicine and hope to get me in Monday and get rid of the little bugger. Anyway, Shade was awesome and hats off to everyone concerned. Gary, we will get to shoot together somewhere down the road. Thanks for listening. Shick

Awesome time as always at Shade!!!!!

From: Red Beastmaster
Date: 10-Sep-22

Well I finally made it to Shade!

All I can say is I was really missing out. This was one of the most well run and organized shoots I've ever been to. Lots of helpers doing their thing and the kitchen staff cooked up very good food at bargain prices.

The courses were beautiful and the targets were all in like new condition. The trails through the towering trees were well marked and easy to walk. We all remarked how cool the setting was.

We were fortunate to get several of our gang from 3 hours away to all camp together. The music and campfire was just the icing on a wonderful weekend! Great time!

Oh yeah, I also got to meet the infamous Monkeyball! You know, I thought he would be bigger. :)

Big thanks to everyone who helped make a memorable weekend!

Yep, a great time all the way around. From the folks to the food....it was all a wonderful time.

A special thanks to the working crew at Shade Mountain that do there best to make sure everyone is having a great time. Andy and his crew worked round the clock to keep things running smoothly.....to the extent of having one of the folks make a store run when they ran out of ice cream sandwiches. Unbelievable work crew.

A big thanks to Kraig and his crew for getting things lined up on the courses. I did not get to shoot the Ironman but it definitely looked like it had some good shots to be made and last I had heard someone had turned in a score that was in the low 70's.

I've been doing this shoot since Day 1 and I don'y ever remember seeing the place so full in all those years.....maybe the vehicles have just gotten bigger. Anyhow I believe we were over 150 shooters by Sat. afternoon.

Red, I'm shrinking in my old age, what can I say????? So very glad to finally meet you and thanks for making the trek east to check our shoot out. I'm really glad you and Joe made the trip over. Now we need to get to one of your guys shoots!

And to all the rest of you that attended (and some even joined the club) a huge "THANK YOU!" You folks are the reason this club has made it all these years, especially when you factor in that it is an Archery only club.

So as they say, "Another one bites the dust!" Mark Sept. 8, 9, and 10, 2023 down on your calendar for the next one. I don't know if it can get bigger......but it definitely is going to get better!

Thanks again and Good Shooting->->->->Craig

Lol, we saw Clint from atop the hill play’n in the water!!!

Well another awesome Shade Mt. Shoot in the books with a count of 153 shooters!!! A huge thanks to the crew for putting on a great shoot and thanks to all who attended and had a great time! It was great seeing all the old friends and making new one. The 3D course/novalties, food, and entertainment were great. These guys sure know how to make some tasty chicken on the pit along with some ribs. I had a blast of a time, did a lil shooting, helping out with the club, and a whole lot of B.S.ing. It was a sad day on Sunday as the shoot ended and having to wait another year for this shoot.

Just so yaw’ll know there is more camping spots down by the creek. If you haven’t made the shoot you got to get here, you will enjoy it for sure!!! BTW next year i hope we can hit over 170 shooter! Oh and don’t tell the guys i said that because they might kick me out of the club!
