For those that camp there, do you think that if I get there Thursday evening that there would be room to set up a camper still or is it pretty much filled up by then, I know this is a guestimate but just based on last years event at Sawmill, never been there, I did go 4 years straight to Denton Hill, last trip was in 2013. Thank you.

Plenty of room in the field. We got there last year thursday noonish and stayed in the field. It was actually nice camping.

Ski Sawmill Resort 383 Oregon Hill Morris Pa.

Morris Pa is very small but also has Nesmucks Store an outdoor supply store that has piqued my interest. The last 30 miles of mountain rd really has no cell service, and the hill area to the left of the vendor tents will get you 3+ bars of service.

STAR doesnt offer too much shade either, unless you get there monday or tuesday. More folks come in and the available campsite room shrinks dramatically. Right now there is a gypsy moth infestation going on, with tent worms on our tent and canopy. Reminded me of the cicada's at the Baltimore shoot a few years ago. The only issue we had were ankle and leg biting flies. Quite worse are the beautiful green mountains turned brown. Its a bad site to see.

The field doesn't limit a camp to its size. And a group can camp together. Whether a tag along, motor home, tipi, Tent or Popup hunting blinds as many Amish folks used, a canopy and tarp will aid in finding shade on the breezy hillside field. The best part to be that youre not bumper to bumper, elbow to elbow.

We look forward to going again and having a great time, and frankly we are looking forward to the field:)

It's less than 15 miles to Wellsboro, north on 287, and that has about anything you would need.

Boy oh boy, Dale isn't exaggerating about the gypsy moth damage. I came up I-99 from western Maryland for STAR two weeks ago. Just north of State College is where it starts. I haven't seen gypsy damage like it since the 1980s here in western MD and southcentral PA...it's disheartening for sure. I read on a Pine Creek Facebook page I follow that many areas were sprayed. Well, it either rained right after they sprayed or more likely...the state only sprayed state-owner land. It seems no area up there north of I-80 is unaffected.

Matt we traveled the same route. Its incredible.

Ill not be wearing shorts while shooting. All around the bottom lands were the flies, looking just like regular house flies. But for some reason they bite the legs and ankles. I highly recommend light weight long pants. My thermacell didnt phase the flies nor did the bug spray, and when they bite it sometimes bleeds.

Seems like alot going on to the negative but we had a blast at STAR and you will as well at ETAR.

Those ankle biting flies at Sawmill are pure torture!!!

What does work for them is Avon Skin So Soft Bug Guard wipes. Sounds silly, but they work great.

Those flies bite right thru socks - need repellant

It was a great time. Thanks for the tip John.

During the saturday Trade Blanket we met a newly retired, fairly local, Park Ranger that mentioned to us that those flies actually thrive upon the GM caterpillars, hence they were introduced as such and combined with chemical spraying, hoping to recuce long term damage.

Pennsylvania is sufffering through a terrible decade of loss of forest, Emarald Ash borrer has decimated ash trees to the point that all ash trees are being cut down, those that are down are to be removed to lessen fuel for forest fires. Gypsy moths have been claiming forests for several decades, Age old Hemlocks dying by the thousands everywhere, Hopefully, the new Chestnut Hybrids may be the start of a new era.

There were lots of little kids and womenfolk there Having fun amongst the heat and flies. Just hoping to give some folks a heads up. BTW the woods were hot too James :)

Sound like black flies to me. They didn’t bother me but I wore bug spray
