Would like to try a recurve and have narrowed it down to these brands and also a Wes Wallace. Always been a longbow guy but want to try a recurve. Opinions differ I know and what works for some may not work for me. Thanks

Black Widow still have try before you buy?
That said I have a TFX Osage , but shoot my Zipper recurve more than any, lately.
Which bow fits your hand is what will matter between you three, probably.

Flint just wants opinions.Thats okay right? He's allready narrowed it down to 3 bows. He's not a greenhorn.Folks ask for opinions all the time on here from bows,to arrows and every everything else under the sun.
sure it would be nice to have all three bows to try in his poundage and length and spend the day woith them. Not gonna happen for alot of guys.
All three bows have a strong following. Its a hard choice like many when choosing a bow to have custom made thats gonna run you alot of $.

I guess I'd choose the one that feels and looks best to you. Tough to say unless you shoot all three and compare, which could be tough to do. Good luck, they're all good bows.

"Would like to try a recurve..."
Starting with an expensive custom, and then finding out it ain't your thing, could be, well, expensive. Lot of modest to mid-price options that won't lose you a bucket of money if you decide to sell and sick with the longbow.
I ordered a custom based on too-limited experience back when, and it was an expensive lesson. If just starting I'd try a few second-hand bows, maybe a few pounds lighter than 'normal' just to get a feel for 'em. Save money for when I _knew_ what I want and need.
PS what draw weight are you looking for?

All are top quality bows, you would need to shoot all and see which one talks best to you. I have a Wallace and it is a great, smooth shooting bow. I shot the Bruin Carbon bow and would like to order one and still may. It is another smooth drawing fast snapping bow and it shot well for me. Have not shot a Bob Lee, so I can't say.

I had/have a Bruin, Bob Lee and Wes Wallace. I have not owned but have shot BW.
I still have the Bruin. As a matter of fact I have two. What I liked best is not only the fit and way it handled and shot for me, but it is just a shade smaller and slimmer than the others.
Of course my preference is the Bruin but you will need to find the one that works best for you.

I have two Bruins and a Bob Lee Hardcore. For me the Bob Lee hands down. Looking at all the differences in opinion your mileage may vary. All are nice bows but for me the grip on the Bob Lee is about as perfect as I've ever had in my hand.

All are great choices. You will not go wrong with any of them. You have to decide what bow appeals to you the most and which one you would enjoy owning. There is no better bow, they are all great. I have had numerous Wes Wallace recurves and numerous Blackwidow recurves, one Bob Lee but I have shot several.
The bottom line is they are all great bows with a good reputation of customer service. Honestly I will go week just shooting my BW. Then, I will decide to shoot my WW, I love them both.
Also, what is your draw length? And what bow length do you want ?

I have never seen or even heard of Bruin so I cannot offer an opinion.
Between Widows and Bob Lee I can say you will likely be happy with either.
In my eyes the Widow would probably be my choice simply because they can come closer to a real custom for an individual. They have three different riser sizes available with limb size charts for specific draw lengths. Widow also offers numerous different grips. The more I write the more I believe I'd go with the Widow since they offer takedown and one piece.
When it comes to quality and customer service Widow or Bob Lee are among the top in the business.
Good luck with your decision I am sure you will be happy either way. Be sure and show us what you get.

I’ve only shot a few Widows and an older Wing, Red Wing Hunter. The Wing is a great bow but the handle was a bit bulky for me. The Widows were ok, but again I’ve only shot them occasionally. I’ve had several Blacktails which are similar to a Wallace and they’re nice bows. I owned a Bruin until it got too heavy. It was one of Mike’s more plain models but a very nice bow. I loved the grip. For me! But it was probably the quietest of any recurve I’ve owned. But probably the hardest to find to try since he’s not a big name. And a new Bruin is probably cheaper than a used Widow. Like was mentioned if you can’t try one first you might want to look for a used or a cheaper entry level bow to see if you like a recurve. Nothing wrong with my Black Hunter either !

I’ve had 3 or 4 widows and one Bob Lee with two sets of limbs. As far as quality and craftsmenship I’d say it’s a horse a piece as none had any flaws in them. The Lee just didn’t fit my hand. Never seen a bruin in person so no idea in those.

Ive shot and owned both the BW PMA and the Bob Lee Bicentennial Recurve. Both were 60” and within a few pounds of each other. I prefer a take down with limbs that mount on the back of the riser as opposed to those that mount on the belly side. I have found that both of the bows preformed equally well but the Lee with the limbs mounted on the back of the riser was quieter and easier to silence. JMHO

I have hunted with and owned all three (Black Widow, Bob Lee, and Bruin)
In all fairness the Bob Lee was in the days of the B-55 string that would break and the Bruin's performance was rather slow due to the B-50 string of the era being used. I broke a couple of Bob Lee's but one was due to the B-55 string breakage and the other was due to shooting a non-stretch string that it wasn't designed for....neither of which can be considered the Bob Lee's bow makers fault. Black Widow adopted the Dynaflight97 string much earlier than most bow makers and I loved the lower stretch string.
I had always shot the Black Widow before the other two...and eventually just went back to the PSA Widow. They are bomb proof with excellent customer service in a bow that has pretty good performance. Not truly the best in anything; but much better than average in everything.
