2022 Trad World is only about 3 weeks away. I don’t think I will make it beings it’s so far, nobody to go with and price of gas. Sure wish it was at Pappys. It will be the First one I have missed since I started going in 2011. Kurt

From: John Sullins
Date: 29-Jun-22

BigStriper1- I am not sure about going also. I want to go, but still not sure. 500 miles one way for me. But I am thinking it might be worth it just to get away from Alabama's heat and humidity for a few days.

Nancy and I aren't going to wimp out! (:>) Have a room at the lodge.

From: CMF_3
Date: 29-Jun-22

I'm planning to go. Will try to make a week of it so long as work cooperates. Shoot, mointain bike, raft, kayak, etc.

Gas prices are not so bad for the individual direct consumer. Let's say you drive 15,000 miles per year, you went from spending roughly $3k per year to roughly $5k per year, depending on where you live and what you drive.

The people that can't afford that were all given at least that $2k difference from the government over the past two years.

We have several issues with our economy currently, and energy prices are a big part of that. But again, the direct cost of fuel for the average individual consumer is not that life altering when you think about it. $40 per week on average I'd say.

From: lamb
Date: 29-Jun-22

cmf 100 dollars to fill my truck per week times 4 = 400 plus a month big difference from 200 per week. the cost of fuel also effects prices of everything from food to the faucet on your sink. so the cost of gas is a big deal

From: CMF_3
Date: 29-Jun-22

Lamb-If you read my whole post you would see that I don't disagree with anything you said.

Point is, get your butts to the Trad Worlds and come have a good time with us ;)

A surprising Colorado Moose Archery hunt is coming up and work is absolutely nuts right now. So I will skip a 12 hour drive to shoot foam and so a 20 hour drive to hunt Moose a little later in the year. Max. drive for me to shoot some foam is about 5 hours.

From: M.P.
Date: 30-Jun-22

I will be there. Pipestem is a wonderful place for trad worlds . More room and so much going on around the park. The New River Greenbriar and bluestone ri ers are very close along with the Bluestone lake for fishing . New River Gorge National Park is not far either. I like Pappy's place but this is so much closer to home.much cooler weather also .

From: George D. Stout
Date: 30-Jun-22

Most probably paid bills and used it for necessities as so many were laid off. You guys with money coming out your rearends have no clue what some folks go through. To add to that, there are those right now who have to decide on whether to pay for fuel oil, or food, or rent, or whatever else is messed up right now. You just don't have any idea what some rural working folks face. And by the way, $3000.00 a year for gas is likely more than ten percent of a lot of folks yearly income.

From: DanaC
Date: 30-Jun-22

Wish it were a thousand miles closer. Will manage to hit the ASA shoot in CT in a few weeks. (About 67 miles.)

Good luck to all shooting and TAKE PICTURES, PLEASE!

I went in 2019. It was a nice place and I liked the camping though I wish I had a shadier spot as it was very hot. I would request a campsite back in the woods if I went again. The bowhunter defense range was great to shoot and get around on but the competition range was tough for me as I was scheduled for a knee replacement the day after the shoot and getting around some of the blow downs was tough. There is a lot to do in the area around where it is being held and it is a nice area. The lodge there looks very nice and we ate dinner there one night and it was great. The shoot was well coordinated and ran on schedule. There were no food concessions on site and no vendors that were selling anything. I have home care issues with a sick loved one and will not attend this year. Amen Mr. Stout, people on a fixed income such as Social security and what we get in retirement are causing many of us to carefully consider how we spend what we have now days.

From: Tim Besmer
Date: 30-Jun-22

Been there and it's a nice place, but it would make more sense to keep it more central it they are concerned with drawing maximum numbers.I think it keeps a lot of people away if you have to travel 8,10 or more hours on the road. Not really complaining but i'll most likely miss it this year. So I'm with you Kurt.

I actually know people that bought new cell phones with the money they got from the gubment. And people get what they vote for.

From: George D. Stout
Date: 30-Jun-22

Well you can find a few I would guess, but you will also find a lot who needed it just to live. You find what you want to find to suit a narrative, just like major media networks. I know first hand folks who are struggling plenty...if you don't understand that, then you are incapable of understanding it because you never were in that situation.

From: Babysaph Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member
Date: 30-Jun-22

Well to act like you know everyone’s history is very presumptive. I do know people that live like that. We have a lot of homeless people where I live now.

From: DanaC
Date: 01-Jul-22

So how many targets do they set for this event? One course? Two?

From: M.P.
Date: 01-Jul-22

Three 25 target ranges for competition(you can shoot in 3 classes). A 25 target hunters challenge and the shoot down targets .

From: John Sullins
Date: 01-Jul-22

Someone who has been there please tell me about camping. Is there camping near enough to the competition that we don't have to drive from camp or walk a half mile between camp and ranges. Walking is getting harder for me.

From: BigStriper1
Date: 01-Jul-22

You will have to drive to where you shoot the IBO course from where you camp.

From: Bownana
Date: 01-Jul-22

Here you go with the full facts. Every year we try to incorporate new ways to make this event different and more for all. IBO is 3 courses, A B C of 25 targets each. The classes for each range are on the facebook and website, at ibotraditional.net so you can shoot in 3 classes if you like. Bowhunter Challenge is 25 targets. There is camping on site and in the near vicinity. The courses are within the Pipestem State Park boundaries. The IBO Trad World is set in locations with a 2 year contract. We were in Pipestem a few years ago with great attendance. For some reason, the Trad World has approximately the same attendance every year. Twin Oaks never disappoints any of us. Hopefully one day we will be back there in traditional heaven. Pipestem is a wonderful place also, and Larry Kade sets up a super, world class course for all of us to enjoy and check our archery skills. Pipestem is cool, so bring a long sleeve shirt for the mornings. There is so many extras to enjoy in Pipestem for the whole family. Yes times are tough, we all know this. If you can't come this year, look forward to better times next year and see your then. Thanks to all of you for your support of the IBO, and we will continue to make the Trad World a go to event every year.

From: jk
Date: 01-Jul-22

Ditto Bownana (above)

Also...our wonderful events do suffer from fires, wars, and politics...of course...but mainly they call for enthusiasm and not for economic theories. Me, I can't travel as much as I did for medical reasons and ...and because I focus on my region.

This year there are 25 targets IBO per range and you shoot 25 on Sunday for the final day. There are 25 on the Bowhunter Challenge. Archers can shoot in 3 classes on 3 different ranges if they like.

I'm confused about the new format. We used to shoot 2 courses and then the top shooters had a shoot off at the end. Now we shoot one 25 shot course and then everyone shoots another on Sunday with the total score used for the Championship ?

From: M.P.
Date: 12-Jul-22

Same format as the last few years except you shoot 25 targets instead of 30 the 1st round then on Sunday you shoot 25 more in a peer group. 3 25 target ranges because you can shoot in 3 different classes if you wish. You have to chose 1 of the classes you shot for the Sunday peer grouping .

Everyone gets to shoot the final day .

Good luck everyone.

From: WV Mountaineer

If I can swing it, I’m going to show up, find the class I qualify in, shoot it and win it. That’s the plan anyway. We will see I reckon. If I can get the time. :^)

From: Bownana
Date: 13-Jul-22

I will try to explain with an example of a 60 yo man, Tom, shooting. Tom can shoot one class, two classes, or three classes. Tom comes to the shoot and is 60 years old: signs up for Senior Trad shooting on course "A" 25 targets being peer grouped at 8am Thursday morning. Shoots course A. Then decides to shoot Senior Longbow on Range "B" 25 different targets peer grouped at noon. Then talks with his friend who says come shoot range C another 25 targets in modern longbow by changing his arrows from wood to carbon, and shows up Friday morning at 8am for peer grouping. Then he enjoys a few rounds on the Bowhunter Challenge course another 25 targets. Tom plays some of the fun (free) archery games on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings. Then Sunday morning he says to himself, well I shot good in Senior Trad so I will compete in that class Sunday morning bringing his Senior Trad scorecard with him at 730am and putting in the box marked Senior Trad to be peer grouped #1 thru #5, or #6 thru #10, and so on and so forth. He finishes Sunday final 25 targets to be added to his first 25 target total. Sunday awards for the Trad World will be immediately following the archers finishing the course. About noon on Sunday.

From: Bownana
Date: 13-Jul-22

You have two times 8am and noon on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday to shoot your qualifying round on the IBO course of 25 targets. You turn your cards in and you will get one back to bring with you on Sunday for the finals to be peer grouped. You will be able to shoot a Bowhunter Challenge for awards also and the top 15 archers from the orange stake classes on the BH Challenge, the top 15 from the white stake classes, and the top 15 women will shootdown on Saturday night in the 3 Rivers Champions Showcase Shootdown. There are several games and shootdowns every evening. There is a kids event, Dinosaur SAfari, for the very young beginner and a kids shootdown for the bigger ones on Saturday at 3pm. Remember you can shoot in one class or 2, or 3. See ibotraditional facebook for more info, and the ibotraditonal.net website for schedule of events. You may also call Levy at 850-393-4078 for further info.

From: M.P.

On Thursday only a 12pm peer group. Friday and Saturday is an 8am and 12pm peer groups

The BH Challenge plaque for the Trad World is a beautiful piece of art and tribute to a friend, fellow Trad shooter and renown wildlife artist David Drinkard. Thanks to his wife we were allowed to use this print called “Morning Drink”. Big week ahead setting up this huge event. Lots and lots of shooting competition and games with prizes for all who come. Trad Worlds once again was great. Pipestem offered three very challenging courses for the IBO Championship. Had to bring ur A game. Loved every shot including the alligator on the rocks. Lol. The Bowhunter Challenge was absolutely that. Expect nothing less than a challenge going to a Trad World Championship. I think we were all tested and know what to work on for next year. Over 250 of the finest most accomplished 3D traditional archers showed up, had fun, competed, and left with the utmost respect for all who made the podium. Thank you Larry and Becky Kade for all the hard work you put in to make this happen at a gorgeous venue. Those ranges were set like terrain in three different states. The thought and time u took to set the targets was noted and appreciated by many. Thanks to Mark Lynde for his expertise and work all weekend. Thanks Rod Jenkins for giving your time and sharing your wisdom. His seminar was enjoyed by many. Special thanks Debbie Brooks, Edith Bain, Robin & Paul Vogel, Kim Timberlake, Joella Bates, Bill Curlis, Randy Irvine for help when needed. And this year the IBO presented the second annual Ambassador Award voted on by his peers to Spanky Brooks. So deserving, the epitome of an ambassador for all in traditional archery. And every year the afternoon games at the Trad World are sponsored by generous companies who support IBO Traditional and the archers. Big thanks to: 3Rivers Archery, Trad Tech Lancaster Archery, CD Archery, Bob Lee Bows, Arvin Weaver Selfbows, Safari Tuff, Ravenclaw Archery, the IBO tournament archers for the donations to the kids shootdown and the Dinosaur Safari. Pics will be posted soon of the fun. Sad it’s over and can’t wait til next year. Thanks to all the archers who came to enjoy and spend time doing what we all love. Thanks again from the IBO Trad staff.

Had to add this for my wife Nancy. She had been working hard to overcome a rough period with a shooting problem last year. We had a little mishap Thursday morning which resulted in the bottom limb of her 32lb Bob Lee P3 recurve breaking. Shanna, being the wonderful and caring person she is, immediately loaned her own Bob Lee longbow to Nancy to shoot the Hunters Challenge. She started to shoot well, but the weight difference worked on her a bit. I had her try my grandson's bow, and she won the Senior Women's division with his 30lb Samick Deer Master after not having shot it before. Very proud of the effort she made to overcome the disappointment she had about her bow breaking.

It was a great time. We stayed at the pipestem lodge and turned it into a small family vacation. Expensive.. but cheaper than Disney lol. They have a the water park for the kids and gamerooms and all other kinds of things to get into.

The weather was pretty much perfect. I loved the new 3 course format allowing more choices in shooting multiple classes. Everyone did a great job putting this event on! Thanks for your hard work!
