Tell me about your preferred 125 grain screw in broadhead please. What make, model, sharp out of the pack?, easy to sharpen?, how they have performed and why you like them in general. I'd also like to keep it limited to broadheads that are currently produced.

I don't mind if they are glue one heads and you got to 125 grains using an adapter but please let me know if that is the case. I'll be using these heads with aluminum arrows hence the need for screw ins.

Magnus are really good. The stingers are my favorite so far.

If you want to spend the money, Iron Will and Valkyries will last you forever.

But Muzzy Phantoms are what I'm running next season.

Thunderhead 125's have been around for a couple decades. Some people insist on cut-on-contact heads but there are heads like this that have stood the test of time.

I've killed a bunch of critters with Thunderheads. They still work fantastic, and you won't find a sharper head out of the package.

3 blade Muzzy.

When John designed it he wanted a head that was sharp, durable, and effective when shot from a longbow since that was his bow of choice. In my experience he got it right.

I've had my eye on the Magnus heads and Tuskers. I was considering Zwickey Eskilites 2 blades at 135 grains but can't find them anywhere. The Iron Wills look great but I'm looking to shoot a double bevel head with these 125's. I have some big Tuffheads for my single bevel pleasure.

Craig, I killed quite a few deer with the Muzzy's when I was a compound hunter and never had any complaints. Thanks for sharing the results of your testing!

Frank, I had no idea that the Muzzy heads were designed to be effective from a longbow. Pretty neat info!

I ordered 6 Ace Standards at 125 grains and with the adapters they are coming in at 160 grains. I'm very happy with them so far and as a bonus I was able to get Hex heads and field points in screw in at 160 grains straight from Ace as well. I also have 6 glue on Razorheads that I'll put an adapter into 3 of them to see where I'm at and how they fly.

I've just been kicking around trying out some 125's and again, I appreciate all the input thus far!

The Ace High Speed is a 100 grain glue-on that can be made into a 125 easily with an aluminum BH adapter.

I actually enjoyed putting together those Standards with the adapters and sharpening them up. I've been enjoying shooting the couple dozen aluminums I put together as well. Life is good.

Thunderheads work great. My oldest son has been using them since they came out in the mid 80s about a year or two after the 160s. I've never used muzzy broadheads but I use muzzy fish points with the same steel tips and they hold up great bouncing off a shale creek bottom hundreds of times. One other option for you is having your shafts swagged at someplace like Mikes Archery in Ironton ohio and using your glueons.

ACE or Eclipse- ThunderHeads for replaceable blades if you have the Draw weight. >>>----> Ken

Jim I have a dozen 125gr screw-on cut on contact broadheads and I have no problem giving you a few if you want them. All you'll have to do is drive that grueling two miles from your house to mine to get them. "LOL" Plus I still got that other stuff I promised Bryer.

Nemo, you're the man! If I cut through the fields on my quad it's probably more like a mile LOL. I'll check with Jul and see what we have going tomorrow eve and hopefully stop over and fling some arrows.

Stay away from the Stingers if you draw until the BH bumps your knuckles.

Thunderheads served me well.

Your Ace Standard solution sounds like a good deal all around, if you’re happy at that weight.

Swaged point tapers would be really cool if it’s cost-effective; nice to have arrows at exactly the right length.

But then you’re back to bumping your knuckles…..

Strickland Helix sigle bevel broadhead, nothing like it, scary sharp, easy touch up.

Corax, no knuckle bumping for me but I can see where that would be a problem if I did with the Magnus heads. I am leaning towards a COC head as I don't shoot much over 50 lbs. at my draw so haven't put much thought into the Thunderheads or like design. I'm real happy with the Ace Standards at 160 and got them very sharp, very fast so they'll likely be joining me in the woods this fall. I will be trying to test them on ground hogs behind the house as well this summer.

HEXX, that Strickland head has an interesting profile.

I really wish that manufacturers would put a too scale picture of their heads on their sites. It's very hard to get a feel for size on some of these heads but maybe I'm just being fussy.

Jim, check out Eclipse Werewolf. Single or double bevel. Extremely sharp out of package, great structural integrity.

Swagged arrow can be any length you want them. They just eliminate the bh insert and arrow insert.

125 grain Stinger or 125 grain Stinger Buzzcut. Make them sticky sharp and put them through 2 lungs or the heart. Very short blood trails. Some of mine are very old and have been poked through multiple deer.

Stingers or VPA on all my non-wood arrows. Both easy to get and keep sharp.

I like the Snuffer 125 grain but they are no longer being produced. Neither is the Muzzy Phantom or the Zwickey. I am not sure there are many being made now. Well I guess the new fangled High Dollar ones
