Interesting question. I don't have an answer for you but I'd like to see what others say. I've never used tung oil as a top coat on arrows.

Someone must know. Years back guys soaked their woodies in Tung Oil to add weight. Unfortunately I don’t have that copy of TBM with the article. When I started using Purs Tung Oil the article I read was out of England. The author fletched first then applied the oil using a rag. I cap dip my shafts so I don’t have an real answer for you.

Thomas, I used to soak some of mine in Danish oil but never tried Tung oil and all I used was Doco cement to hold my fletchings on . I never had a problem as long as I let the finished shafts dry a few weeks first after removing from my soak tube of pvc pipe.

Fletchtite platinum only if going directly on carbon or aluminum OR if using fletchlac paints. Anything else, including Poly, gets Duck.

Gets ‘Duco’

Darn auto correct

Bohning products generally only play well with other bohning products.

Duco plays with everybody.

I used a tung oil based finish for many years and always used Duco however bohning will work fine.

Tung oil is a poor finish on anything but furniture it dries out in time and is no longer water proof.

I went with Tung Oil because of target burn. Got tired of chipping off little pieces of foam, cardboard or whatever else was in target. I tried Bohning Laq, Gasket Laq, Polyurethane, and some others I forgot about. I tried greasing the arrows with lube, wax, snot, whatever. Nothing worked. Yes, Tung oil isn’t forever, I have to touch up the point end of the shafts once in awhile. Not waterproof? Pure Tung

Oil was used as a sealant for wooden ships way back when.

...but they weren't glued together!

I soaked shafts in Watco oil (don't know if that's tuning oil) years ago and used fletch tight and Duco on them. Worked fine. I made sure the shafts were very dry before doing so however. i.e., in the sun for a couple of weeks.

There's Tung oil and there's real Tung Oil, which one are you talking about?

I use real tung oil and have not had an issue with any glues Ive used, just make sure its dried for a week or so. Applying tung oil is a laybor of love but I put that Sh%$ on everything!

Once a day for a week Once a week for a month Once a month for a year Once a year for ever

I've only ever used 100% pure tung oil on my woodies, as well as on my wood knife handles. Three coats over three days has been plenty and as someone else mentioned, touch up the point end once in a while from target wear(touch up is easy!). I have many arrows made years ago that are still good to go, tho I live in the desert, so, ymmv. Unfortunately, I can't really answer to the question of glue used as I have always tied on fletch on the woodies using artificial sinew and they fly and look great.

I have used Saunders NPV over a Minwax "tung oil" (in quotes because it's not pure tung oil) product with no issues. Not an exact answer to your question but maybe it helps.
