This critter showed up on our trail cam today. Any idea what it is? SW Wisconsin

Where is it

The critter is to the left side of the picture.

deer with head down feeding. ? head down to left....right back leg extended to right. ?

I think Steven is right.

It looks like a pig to me? Looks close to the ground with thick hind quarters.

Jegs x2

From: Bill Rickvalsky
Date: 21-May-22

My money is on a pig. Like Jegs suggested. Seems too squat for a deer. Hard to tell.

From: Longcruise
Date: 21-May-22

I'm thinking pig too.

From: Rik Davis
Date: 21-May-22

Does not look like a pig to me. What appears to be an ear looks as though it may be canine or feline. What appears to be heavy hindquarters looks like a thick tail to me.

A Chupacabra

From: George D. Stout
Date: 21-May-22

You have nothing there to show dimension so it may be smaller than you think. Shape wise, it could be a groundhog or badger critter, and I don't think we're seeing a side view, it's more angular like it may be coming out into or going away from the field.

From: Mike E
Date: 21-May-22

LOL,,long tail, small head, short thick neck, short snout, fur not hair,, back end seems taller that the front, what all grows in WI.

From: Rough Run
Date: 21-May-22

Looks like a longer neck, small head with ears laid down, the ripple shadowing on the front and hind quarters, sloped down rump - first look made me think that I've seen that before, in my cat.

I don't see a long tail, it's hard to differentiate animal from everything else in the photo.

From: George D. Stout
Date: 21-May-22

Could be a fisher I suppose, but if that's the only photo it's anyone's guess.

From: Rick Barbee
Date: 21-May-22

Deer.

Left hind leg forward. Right hind leg rearward, and I can clearly see the tail.

Head is down, and appears to be turned slightly to the left.

The grade of the ground falling away to where it is standing, makes it look like it is standing in a hole, or squatting down.

Tail looks like a coyote to me but the rest of it doesn't so I haven't a clue.

Is that a fire pit in the foreground? If so how long are the logs? It does look like it may be quite small hard to get a good reference.

Okay now, don't throw any rocks. :^)

When I first saw that I thought, you've caught a doe giving birth. So.... I went to YouTube and did a brief search and found these.

I thought dog but when blown up really big deer. Odd angle, head down, facing down hill, & in a low spot. >>>----> Ken

Deer face on left

From: Corax_latrans

Now that he has pointed it out… I do see what Rick sees. I think there is a lot of confusion because there’s something very light colored in the background which makes it look like a long, curled (or at least curving) tail… Which just isn’t really there. At least not as part of the animal.

I totally understand why some folks would figure it was a pig. I kind of had the same thought, except that it doesn’t make any sense for Wisconsin.

But you can see that it’s a whitetail, with the tail clamped down pretty tight on the hind quarters.

Again… I’m not saying that I had a real clear fix on this before I read Rick’s post, but with that assist, I can get there.

Baby Bigfoot disguising itself as something else.Thier smart.

From: loose arrow

Almost looks like a mountain lion because it looks like a long curved tail on the right.

Maybe the thing to do is to go over there and look for tracks?

Or at least get a picture of an object of known size in the same location to establish scale. Hopefully when I try to blow that up on my phone, I can’t see squat.

I'm surprised no one saw the Bigfoot hiding in the bushes.

It's a baby! Sasquatch. It isn't learned to walk upright yet. JF lmao

I thought cougar also when I first looked

From: David McLendon
Date: 22-May-22

It looks like a cat, short haired and well muscled looking at the hindquarter. It looks bigger than a house cat but there is really nothing there to give it perspective.

From: opr8r

It’s a deer. You can see both back leg knee joints…opr8r

From: Bernie Bjorklund

OK......I think you "deer guys" are on to something. My son went and looked for tracks this afternoon, and the only prints were from a deer in that location.
