These are the largest mushrooms I have ever found. Are they bolete mushrooms?

No, boletes do not have gills, they have pores instead. Not sure what this one is, but bring on the monsoons! We had an epic year foraging last year here in NM.
Good luck and don't eat it unless absolutely positive you know what it is.

Find your local Mycological group and send them photos, or meet someone in person. Just don't show them where you found these. If they are a delicacy you'll never find them again before they do haha.

I like to eat wild mushrooms. But only the ones I’m 100% sure about.

The only way to survive haha. Not a good idea to use the mushroom ID apps either, the ones that try to ID by photos, they are shockingly off. Where are you located?
It's a great way to get out and intimately learn and area, most mushrooms are associated with specific trees, elevations, micro climates, etc.

Those are winecap stropharias, and they're very good; I've eaten many of them before. They love to grow in rotting wood chips. As a test, pull one up by the stem; you'll see short white "rootlets" growing out of the base...and you can actually harvest the top, and replant that rooted stem base and it will grow more for you. The young ones are often a deep burgundy color, but as the cap expands it usually gets lighter., sometimes becoming almost tan. Look it up online as a double-check to my ID, but I'd bet Frisky's house on it.

These aren’t boletus, if they were they wouldn’t have gills but spongy bottoms and tops wouldn’t be cracked like that. Don’t eat them!

Well I just fried up and sampled my first one cap mushrooms. They have a Slightly nutty earthy like flavor and are very tasty. If I ever come across them again I will be sure to pick them. Thanks Kerry and everyone for the input.
