HA,, Here in town I'm sort of limited with my shooting so instead of having a big target out in the yard I use old shafts. Works well, 360 degree access. I put a couple up shoot back and forth. 20-30 a day in the morning shooting at the nock with judos. makes for good practice for when I can't get out after stumps.

Yep, I also live in town with limited shooting range. I can safely shoot off the deck into the side yard. My favorite targets are dandelions when blooming or I'll toss out some plastic golf balls. I also made a 4' x 4' stacked cardboard target in the garage, just back the wife's car out and shoot. Ranges are limited to about 25 yds.

If you were in the neighborhood I'd give you an old 3d 'core' to play with. Can't use them on the course but they'll still stop an arrow when shot from the side.
Some clubs just discard them, can't hurt to ask.

No local archery clubs to join? My club dues is about the best bang for the buck expenditure I make each year.

Sometimes I take for granted how nice it is to live out of town.
This morning I took my longbow for a walk out the back door. I shot dandelions for 200yd to the woodlot where I went into hunting mode. I snuck down Hog Alley and checked the groundhog holes. Then I shot stumps along a path and back, keeping an eye out for the little fox kits that have been coming out of their den. I shot half my bag course on my return and finished with more dandelions and a shot to my turkey target as I passed my range.
Yes, I am blessed to live where I do.

An old shaft or a bamboo garden stake… Those are probably about as satisfying as things get.
I’ve got it really good, I have to say… Our club has 40 or 50 different 3-D targets; everything from squirrels and pheasants and deer to velociraptors and buffalo. There may even be one that is only rumored to exist. Our range captain just put in an order for new targets that would cover the replacement cost of my car.
We also have an NFAA style course which I’m trying to persuade the guys to get into prime condition.
This one was a first attempt at 30.
LAST shot of the day. ;)

"no local archery club to join"? the club I belong to is about 20 min. away since I work afternoons it's easier to shoot here for a little bit in the AM. I go to the club on my days off. Sold my house last Sept. had a completely fenced in backyard that offered up to 40 yrd. shots, I miss that. I started shooting at shafts a few years ago when I decided to shoot ASL's more. It helped when I was learning the swing draw style that John Shultz promoted. Started with dandylions then used a shaft about 6" high and then a foot high and so on. It was very helpful in learning the site picture quickly instead of having to hold the bow at anchor.

Judo's and the small plastic coke bottle. Put the top on tight and you get immediate feed back. I hardly ever damage one.
