Has anyone used/hunted with the single bevel VPA broadheads and if so what is the opinion of them? I've hunted with the Cutthroat in the past and it's my only experience with a single bevel but I'm not crazy about the tip on the Cutthroat. Any opinions out there? Thanks

I'm gonna give the 250g a try just got to decide between the carbon steel and the premium tool steel (what ever that is and 10 bucks more for 3) and give them a go. They are the chisel point that I'm more used to.

I have hunted with the Bishop single bevel heads, and they are awesome.

I have used other VPA heads, and their construction, material, and performance are superb.

Since the VPA single bevel looks almost identical to the Bishop single bevel, and knowing how good the VPA's construction, materials, and performance have always been - I'm gonna say - they are probably some of the best out there.

There is a ton of discussion in the archives on these heads.

Wayne, I've never used them. Just commenting on the great reputation that other VPA heads have, and the great experiences I have had with them.

I did go to the VPA site to look at them. That's why I say they look almost identical to the Bishop single bevels.

With the Bishop heads, their length seems to go up with their weight to some fairly longish heads, and the pictures of the VPA's look to follow that same thing.

I have used the Bishop 175gr single bevels. They are short/stubby with a chisel tip, but they shot through everything I ever shot with them, and went another several feet to several yards before stopping.

Rick Would you go with the carbon steel or the premium tool steel. the carbons are the standard black the premiums are the coated green heads. What is the Bishop made from?

I have both steels. They both perform the same, so you'll be happy with either.

This is the last boar I killed with a 175gr Bishop single bevel (like I said, the VPA are almost identical).

Granted, he was only 6 yards away when I shot him, but the broadhead crushed both shoulders going through, then stuck (buried) in a mesquite tree about 15 ft or so off the exit side.

If I wanted to shoot single bevels again, I would not hesitate to use the VPA's, and have full confidence they will work as good as any out there, and probably better than most. For now, I'm back to using the VAP 175gr 3-blade heads.

The Bishops (if memory serves) are made from S7 tool steel, or something like that.

Don't remember for sure.

I’ve used the Strickland Helix. They fly great but are a major pain to sharpen. I’ll probably use VPA single bevel next season because of the ease of sharpening a straight cutting edge.

Bishop makes heads out of 41L40 steel, S7 tool steel as well as the S72/58 proprietary tool steel. I have never tried them due to the price, but they sure have good reviews. If I were made of money and going on a hunt in Africa for hard to kill critters that also want to kill me, I would definitely have them in my quiver. But until that happens I'll stick with my Cutthroats.

I would like to mention though that I've spent a lot of time researching VPA and I consider them very good heads from what I have read. I have just never tried them so I can't give an honest review.

cblasey VPA's are my favorite heads. I just have not used their single bevel. I like to sharpen one cutting edge so single I will go.

I don't understand the Cutthroat tip issues? My first year using them I shot completely thru a P&Y Moose w a 53# Recurve. Same w a Buck the next year w 47#. Shot thru two does last season w 40#.

I've not used them, but the cutthroats look like very well made broadheads.

I don't see an issue with them, unless they are soft.

Ive killed several deer with Cutthroat and VPAs each. Great broadheads.
