I was watching The Professionals last night, an older western. One of the actors was a long bow shooter, he did quite a bit of shooting and it is a good movie.

I also watched the Professionals this week. I could not believe a western of that quality eluded me all this years. Great movie.

@Yeller It is on Netflix, and it looks like either Vudu or Prime Video have the best price for renting it (streaming).

Woody Strode was an Olympic athlete. Those guys were all WWII veterans. Serious tough guys!

From: Woods Walker
Date: 07-May-22

That they were! And if you want read about a REALLY tough guy...not a thug, just TOUGH...look up Charles Bronson's life history. When you learn of his childhood and young adult years, you realize that the guys he played in the movies were real wussies compared to him!

Nobody else could have played his roles so convincingly, for example Paul Kersey in Death Wish. I wondered if Charles Bronson’s role in the Great Escape may have truly bothered him.

From: Woods Walker

According to the above article about him, yes it did. Gee...I wonder why?!! But he did it anyway!

Some background Leatherwallers: Woody was the real deal. The best thing to ever come out of UCLA, next to Jim Morrison and Carol Burnett. He ran track for the Bruins, played pro ball and then found his way into films, particularly in a series of John Ford-directed westerns. Everybody loved and respected the man, who would often double as the first "personal trainer" to the Hollywood stars. (He often was called upon by the Studios to "get the stars in shape" in the weeks leading up to a picture) People trusted him. Richard Brooks, who directed Strode in "The Professionals", assigned him to keep an eye on wild man Lee Marvin during the filming. But, the cast being housed in Las Vegas, proved to be quite a task. Marvin's antics became the stuff of Legend, together with the performances in this spectacular Western. In fact, Hugh Rich provided the archery tackle for the picture. Once released, the film became an instant classic, a true gem in its genre that went on to garner numerous Oscar nominations in 1966. Also of note: The film was based on a little known adventure novel by author Frank O'Rourke, "A Mule For The Marquesa". If you couldn't tell already, I read both the book and Mr. Brook's superlative screenplay at the Writers Guild Members library many moons ago. A fine afternoon. So, saddle up to "The Professionals", you'll find it worth the ride...

Thanks for bringing this up and thanks Tony for posting those pictures. Woody was a real bad ass and a good guy, that was an era of true tough guys that can’t be touched today, I loved that movie and need to watch it again

One thing's for sure, if ANY of the above mentioned gentlemen were of the age they were when they made these movies and hosting this year's Oscar awards, there'd of been NO slapping going on!!!

That Cooper?

From: Deno

That's Richard Farnsworth. He looked like Gary Cooper. He was a stunt man for Wild Bill Hickok's Guy Madison. The whole group were friends of Howard Hill.
