Does anyone have experience shooting a thumb release IE advantages or disadvantages with a traditional bow ?

The advantage is that it allows you to shoot arrows that are more stiffly spined because you don't have the affect of the string rolling off your fingers.

Shorter bows can be more comfortable to shoot because the finger pinch related to string angle is minimized because you only have one finger on the string.

It is challenging to get used to the new sight picture that comes with shooting with a thumb release.

It takes some time to learn the correct technique and build up the strength in the thumb.

I used leather & a web strap thumb releases when my arthritic fingers couldn't stand the pressure. Shot off the same bow side. I am back to a finger tab now. Good luck.>>>----> Ken

For guys with a short draw you get free speed with a longer draw length.

Chairman that isn't neccessarily true.

It's just like shooting using 3 fingers it all depends on where you "anchor".

It is true more often than not, if you anchor to the same part of your face with a thumb draw you are not in all likelihood in alignment.

Thanks for the information , I have a 25.5 inch draw length and could use the extra inches

Using a right-hand thumbdraw with the arrow on the left side of the bow can get a little tricky.

You don't have to shoot from the offside with a thumb ring, but you can.

You can also use a D-loop on the string and use the thumb ring/thumb tab that way as well.

Joel Turner has done quite a bit of shooting with the thumb release. I believe he still has some good information on YouTube. I've tried it, but really didn't commit to it long enough to gain any level of comfort and consistency.

I am using this release strap that goes around pinky finger it is 5.5 inches long and has half a nock insert sewn in the end held with the thumb as the holding point before release. Am holding 50 pounds draw weight with no problem .
