Those that use a Back quiver for hunting, lets see some kill pics of critters you've killed while wearing your back quiver.
Nothing like a good picture thread to show this style of quiver can, and has, been effective for hunting game.
Wearing one on the 3D course or roving is one thing...but I know there are some here that have had success using one in the killing fields!
So lets see some dead animals and back quivers.

This thread should distinguish between those that talk about back quivers and use them only for 3D and roving, and those that have actually use them for hunting. Small game counts too!

I like the back quiver when I hunt with the longbow. I rarely take "kill" pictures, and maybe have taken three or four since I've been hunting...it has to be a special reason for me to do that..(a first of sorts). I do enjoy seeing what others do and get with their bows. Yeah, I'm weird.
I'm not in love with the back quiver, but it does have it's purpose...especially in the squirrel woods. :) I do have a deer skin model that was made by a local man that I use when I do hunt with one.

I could never afford a quiver of any kind so I just carried three arrows and as far as pictures, we didn't have time for that or the money to buy a camera, we prepared the game and divided it amongst the three of us regardless who shot it. Different era, different reason to hunt.
Later when I could afford a back quiver I used one, still no reason to take a photo, I don't want to be seen with a gator and my arrow in it.
Gordon, now I see how you got your handle. Good shooting and that is some good eating, I liked the smaller game, easier to prepare and carry.

I only have a few pictures of me using a back quiver because 99% of the time I prefer a bow quiver or a hip belt quiver. I used back quivers mostly in my longbow days. Always nice to see some pictures that guys have. Andy Man I always enjoy the puppy pictures.

Nice to see a thread showing these obsolete backquivers able to do their job. They work wonderfully if they're designed for hunting and guys will give them a chance. The old timers didn't seem to have a problem with using them, maybe this thread will push someone over the edge of giving them a fair shake....meaning more than one trip afield. Like other archery equipment, there's a comfort level that comes with the using and not always available right out of the Amazon box.

Well said Nate. There is a learning curve that most probably won't achieve in a couple outings. I like using one when caring my longbows. You learn where to position and perfect the quiver bump. You learn to tuck them under your arm when wading through thick brush and so on. They definitely have they're place.

Thumper, Steve is going to build me a Classic with yew limbs later this summer. For handle woods I am looking at Bolivian Rosewood, or Myrtle. But I really like the looks of that Bolivian Rosewood. How do you like it as far as weight? Sorry guys for getting off subject. Back to back quivers. Went through some thick brushy areas today and had no problems with my backquiver, just slid it down under my arm and walked through. For me it is way easier than a bow or hip quiver.

I notice most all of you wear a back quiver with no second strap,no support strap. very basic and simple. I like that, but if I am shooting a lot, I like my quiver to stay in place.

If you look at the pictures there are some trends from those that kill stuff. Most are wide Hill style. That is because they work for the woods. Don't see a lot of second straps or sheep shearling in there as most who use them for hunting figure out quickly what works or they discard them for a bow quiver or something else like a cat or safari tough.
IMO one of the benefits of the design is that you don't want a quiver to stay in one place. I constantly move mine around as I go through brush. Move it around to even crawl. The angle of the strap attachment and placement allow the quiver to stay where it should go until you bump it with your elbow or hand. The same place every time.
I go so far as to put the shiny side of the leather strap upside down against my body to allow it to swivel easier being smooth.

Two4 said it well. There is a reason why the Hill style quiver works in the woods.
Wide mouth allows the arrow to come out on an angle, reducing how high the arm must go up to get the arrow to clear. If a skinny tube quiver is used, the arm just reach up and out further to clear the arrow. If long arrows are used, this becomes a greater issue.
Quiver hanging lower and able to slide around freely...this is so that the arrows will clear brush most of the time when walking and the quiver can be slid around the body to get under lower hanging or thicker brush. Also, if the quiver starts out lower and is bumped up to reach a nock, then when the nock is grabbed and the arrow is withdrawn, the quiver slides back down, making the arrow come out even easier. Once this motion is ingrained into muscle memory, it's the easier way to get out an arrow and is easy on the shoulders. The only time this is difficult is if the shooter has very rounded shoulders or a hump back situation and in that situation I don't recommend a Hill style quiver.
Quiver hanging lower also makes all the arrows clump together, locking the fletch together and eliminating arrow movement and rattle more so than even having the quiver collapse in the middle.
This thread is showing me that guys that seriously hunt with a backquiver, use the Hill style mostly. Guys that use a backquiver to tote their arrows on the 3d course, or to the blind or treestand could use anything they want, it's just an arrow transporter. Guys that use a Hill style for hunting realize there is no need for a second strap, fur or skinny quivers to "make them work", the design makes them work. Guys that need to carry a large pack to hunt (larger than a fanny pack or haversack) will use a different quiver on their back or side like a Raptor or Safari Tuff version.

For close deer or bear hunts in the mountains, a small fanny pack. For elk hunting, a larger fanny pack or haversack that I can lash my pack-out-bags to. For the local hunts of just a few hours, gear goes in my pockets. And by gear, I mean pocket knife and cell phone lol. I can go to the truck to get anything more like a sled, packframe, etc. and I can handle not carrying water or snacks for a few hours lol.

Christmas Eve, kids were at grandma's opening presents...I snuck away and got a gift myself. 27-28 yard shot from a treestand. Shawnee Spirit Flatbow. Watched this young deer throw itself under a blowdown to hide itself..knowing it was dying. Have tracked and found deer that did or attempted the same to conceal themselves. A doe tucked herself under a dry creekbed undercut..passed her by twice before we backtracked and spotted a leg. Much respect for these whitetails.

Trying to close the distance on several deer, I shot this doe from 28 yards while she was walking. I led the shot by looking at the very front of her chest, she walked right into my arrow. With all the the deer I've taken both from treestands and the ground, this hunt was one of my most memorable. Beautiful October woods. She died not 20 yards from where I hit her, confused, she ran back and forth. I had just spooked a sleeping buck 30 minutes before, :)

I've posted this pic before. My son was up on top of the edge of the ravine with me halfway down about 60 or so yards below him ..skirting the ravine. I had the big 11 pointer coming right to me...a buck that showed himself to us several times...a mature buck but hadn't gone totally nocturnal yet. My son didn't know I had big boy coming in. He had all his attention on this buck chasing a doe out in front of him. The 11 pointer caught my son moving to make the shot and aboutfaced..as I watched him turntail, I looked up in time to see Joey arrow the buck and seconds later look down on me to give me the thumbs up. The big 11 pointer would come later. Proud papa!

Sunset Hill, good point, I use my HH quiver every time I shoot now, I just love to draw an arrow from it, matter of fact I am pretty good about doing it quietly and quickly.
If I ever get back to hunting I will post pictures, I am waiting for my anaconda or python to shoot.
It is odd that I never thought about having photo's taken, I don't even have one of my many motorcycles or cars except for my 1955 Harley my mother took of me going to school on. My wife has to remind me to take photo's even today...Ha!Ha!
I do wish I had the capability back then.

I just can't find a way to use the back quiver when on an extended hunt where I need a back pack. Sure I can use it when doing a couple hour hunt locally. I am just trying to figure it out.
