Several local restaurants offer free meals to veterans every November 11th. Unfortunately, because of my experiences in the navy, I developed a phobia about standing in long lines, waiting to be fed. So, I never take advantage of these annual freebies.

Army for 10 years until wife said she didn't want to move around with all the kids we keep popping out.

Thank you to all my fellow service members. Beside my battle buddies, sailors also bring back good memories. My(Army Private) first duty station was at a joint base. Was assigned to a team of mostly sailors. Their camo were still digital blue. For almost 2 months they got me to believed that their uniforms were specially treated to turn orange when hit with salt water. Incase they fell off the ship. It made total sense to me, why else would you wear BLUE uniform on a ship in the middle of the ocean! Yeah, never heard the end of it until I left unit. Apparently I still hold the record for longest believer from what my buddies that are still there tells me.

Enjoy the time with family and friends. Reach out a hand to other who you think does not have anyone to spend time with. Don't let anyone get left behind.

My father rests with his brethren in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C. He served from 1936 to 1958. Saw action in WWII & Korea. This weekend is so much more than three days off, it is the weekend to honor those who served and are no longer with us. No matter their gender or the color of their skin, they all deserve our respect and gratitude.

It would be great, on this forum, that behind every applicable site-name would be a military recognition... example: skookum U.S.A.F.
