I was given an old screaming eagle loc on. Little wood seat which is gonna go. Trying to figure out what to replace it with. May weld up some square tubing or bend some conduit. But then I had a thought. Dangerous for me. What if I made one out of pvc. Light quiet and strong. Put some mesh or netting on it to sit on. Anybody done that before ? If so , how did it work ?

I'd kinda be worried about the long term effects of weather on the PVC. The heat and sun kills it here in Texas.

And I'm not sure that properly sized PVC would be significantly lighter than tubing.

Made a seat using 3/4" copper plumbing pipe and soldered fittings

worked fine

This may or may not work. But may years ago, we made a knock off of "Loc on Lems", which had a similar seat. We would cut the large portion from an old pair of jeans leg, up near the crouch and it would work perfectly. Tho, from your pic, that seat may be bigger than we were using.

Anything stand with a fold-out bar/cloth saddle cut killed my leg circulation. The actual origianl LOC ON LEM brand stands (when they made them) came out with a great aftermarket seat and inspired me to roll-my own". I made one out of a screw-in tree step with a piece of flat stock welded to it. Cut a piece of thick foam padding and cover it with some quiet, water resistant material from the fabric shop and staple it underneath. Voila! I just use it instead of the tree stand seat if it has one I don't like, as you can put the height where you need it for your legs.

Great ideas. Thanks. I decided against the pvc as well. I do have a conduit bender and I’m gonna go that route. Put some pipe insulation over it for comfort and quiet.

Can you please explain the knots/webbing setup on that dowel climbing aid? Very cool

Forgot to mention a piece of treated plywood I screwed to the flat stock that was covered with the foam and cover material. My mind ain't the "steel trap" that it used to be, but my butt's still comfortable!

I would just put some padding on the wooden seat

Andy Man, that climbing aid is slick!!!

Wish I would have had the brains to think of that in the 80's when I was a teenager hugging the tree and pulling myself up!

Young and dumb I guess or as my dad used to tell me when I did things the hard way, "That's a character builder son". I must be quite the character now because I sure did a lot of "character building" in my youth.

Get 1.75” or 2.5” fire hose. I have used it to replace the webbing on patio furniture. That stuff seems to last forever. Be sure to strip the inner jacket/core so that only the outer jacket is used. It is still plenty strong enough. The inner jacket core has a rubber inside and traps moisture.

BOHO,

If the seat is triangular you won't cut circulation to your legs and turning to either side is easier.

The picture is of my ClearShot Summit stand with the triangular seat.

Woosies, lol. Real men have no chest hair...they wore it all off climbing trees by "bear hug" with the Original Bakers!

I will say the "hand climber" they came out with much too late was an improvement, but the nylon slip-on seat for it was awful. Then they added the drop down "seat climber" attachment, which was a modest improvement. I will confess to being wuss enough to have padded mine!

I modified all my chain ons with a plate about 1/4" thick & about a 3" long piece of pipe with a bushing in it. Purchased a boat seat and removed the bottom 1/2 of the swivel base. Welded about a 3" post to the remaining plate, to fit the bushing. I could leave all the chain ons in the trees which were hard to spot without the seat. Carry the one seat to where ever I wanted to hunt. The stands no longer got used without my permission. Eventually made just a round well padded plywood seat with the same size post. Used it for a quick hunt or whenever I didn't feel like carrying the boat seat. With a loop attached,it hung on my belt. >>>----> Ken

I have a bunch of screaming eagles and I just replace them with another piece of plywood and contact cement foam pads on.

I replaced the wooden seat on my Screaming Eagle Eaglets with a wider piece of aluminum plate, about 1/16" thick. Up-sized it to 9 inches wide by 12 inches deep. Make sure to cut or grind front corners round. Camo-ed to suit. Bolted the plate to the stand using the same hole pattern as the original tiny seat. I used contact cement to attach 1/2" closed-cell foam padding. Even if the squirrels make a banquet of your foam padding while you're away, you will still have a safe (hard) place to sit when you come back.

On my full-size original Eagles, I went 10x14. No cemented-on pad for these. I carry a nice 3" thick closed cell foam pad for it and can easily sit all day comfortably. Due to the thickness of the pad, the stand would never fold up completely flat against the tree nor fold for carrying if a pad this thick were permanently attached. (Starve squirrels, starve! LOL) With the longer, wider platform, and the plush seat, this thing is COMFY!
