Anybody shooting a Predator? Just ordered a classic - bubinga, purpleheart, charcoal riser with tulipwood limbs - 60" 54# @ 28". Pros, cons? Now the wait begins 6-8 weeks - I'm really excited about this bow - been drooling over the website for a while.

No cons about a Predator. Fast, dead in the hand, shoots where you look. You got almost the same bow as mine. 54@29.

Anyone shoot the metal risered Predator like is listed in 3-Rivers? Just curious.

From: PeteA
Date: 18-Jul-13

I have a Predator Hunter 46@28, 60" AMO, solid Bubinga riser. My bow loves a heavier arrow, 2016s and a delta bow quiver. You'll love the bow. I also installed a Bear Weather Rest. My arrows zip.

JM, I've the same riser with 46# limbs. It is an awesome bow. I shoot 530gr cedars off the shelf and get great flight. You can't go wrong with a Predator. Frank

Man - what can I say.

I have had nearly all the bows that money can buy (B/W, Bob Lee, Fox, Morrison, Horne, Bear, Martin - you guys know the deal) and right up there with the best of them is my new 'Impact'. This latest new Predator model smokes the standard Predator I used to have. I have since sold all of my bows and only have my Jim Jones R/D longbow and my Predator - the others were all secondary, so why bother having them around.

The new 'Impact' is very quiet, fast, dead in the hand and most importantly - the grip is great. The arrows find their mark where I point - you really don't need any more than this in a bow.

I love the impregnated hardwood riser - it is so dead in the hand and imparts more of the energy into the arrow.

The only bad thing is that the Pittsley boys are so busy lately, they don't bother to answer their correspondence anymore - a bit frustrating. Very hard to ring them from Australia (only have a cell phone here) and so far all emails have been ignored.

However, their bows are the best of the best. I have had bows that cost over twice as much (my Habu, Schafer, Border), and this new impact smokes them - for half the price.

You certainly won't be disappointed.

suttoman, Do you know if the limbs are a different design for your Impact riser, or does it use "standard" Predator limbs? Thanks!

From: suttoman
Date: 19-Jul-13

It uses standard Predator limbs. It is the riser that gives it the added speed. It has a lower brace height than the normal Predator. I have mine set to 6 1/2 - and it is sweet and quiet.

Thanks for all the replies guys. Hopefully I'll have the bow at least a couple of weeks before our season opens - come on Oct.

I haven't shot too many bows. I'm only two years into shooting, but my predator is faster with less draw weight (48#) than my previous hoyt gamemaster (58#). I love mine....but the turkey might have had a different perspective.

From: Smithhammer

I've continued to hear so many good things about Predator bows that I finally broke down and ordered one - a #55 Classic. Can't wait to get my hands on it, and hopefully have it dialed in before elk season...

From: LBshooter

Have a set of 55lb limbs, red elm and a riser on the way, looking forward to shooting it.

From: r.grider

I have 3 predator bows, none of which are for sale. they have to be the fastest, smoothest , best shooting bows around ,I can find no fault unless it was maybe noise. proper string height, arrow weight, and string silencers gets that to a minimum. I've taken several deer with mine, its my go to recurve, and I like my treadways in a longbow.

From: TheArrowSlinger
Date: 22-Jul-13

I would love to get my hands on a #50 hunter model. -Ty

From: Jay B
Date: 22-Jul-13

All pros, no cons in my book! I've shot a lot of different recurves, and my Grey Classic is my favorite to date. Some say the handle is an issue, but I don't have a problem with it. If you don't like it, you'll have no problem selling it.

From: DT1963
Date: 23-Jul-13

I didn't see the impact model on the website?

From: suttoman
Date: 23-Jul-13

You are correct - for some reason it is not even up on their website. Seems to be the only place that is really selling them is the dealer here in Australia (in Australia's Capital - Canberra).

I thought they would be more popular in the States.

The impact is not on the website but Mike said it's available, you just have to call. I bought the hunter grey riser, just couldn't justify the extra cost for a few more fps.

My new #55 Predator Classic arrived yesterday.

Initial impressions -

- This is the smoothest, easiest drawing #55 bow I've ever held! It seriously feels like less poundage than it really is. I feel like Im drawing a #50 bow.

- Getting it tuned up was very easy. A couple strips of otter fur on the strings, and some calf hair on the limbs, and its quieted down nicely.

- As others have said, Predators shoot where you look. With the brace height turned up to 7-5/8" and a 650gr. arrow, it put 'em right where I wanted from the very first shot, whether at 10 yards or 20+. There really is no time needed "getting used to" this bow.

- I found the medium grip very comfortable, and not too bulky at all.

I think I might have found my new elk bow for the upcoming season...

Sutto, smokes a Schafer, I believe it. smokes a Habu, I can't say cuz I have never had one. smokes a Border, thems fightin' words! LOL glad you like the Predator so well. I have not found a faster bow than my Border but brother if your predator is it, do tell! I'm shooting Hex6 BB2 limbs and my Border is really fast and flat shooting. Which Border limbs did you have? How does one obtain the Impact? It is really a sweet looking shooter. Thanks for sharing!

From: sake3
Date: 31-Jul-13

Guess if you don't like the grip the Predator might not be for you.It is an excellent bow.Really should be looked at closely if you want a custom bow.Not that I'm knocking the Howatts or Wings but the Predator is a superb bow and is very competitive.Certainly worth the money.

Love Mine. It was actually my Dads and he came down with cancer 7 years ago and gave it to me because he could no longer shoot it after all his treatment and went back to his Kodiak Magnum. I have shot Several deer with it and took a nice Mountain Goat with it last year in Utah. Great bow.

LB, my Grey Classic shoots great at 7 5/8" brace. Had a Bear/Delta quiver on mine, worked fine til it fell apart. Got a Great Northern coming this week, let you know how it works out. Enjoy that bow, they are top of the heap IMHO.

LB, 7 7/8 inch brace height here. I have a Delta quiver on mine. I like the old school look. Enjoy. One tip, try a Bear Weather Rest on the bow! You will not be sorry!

From: LBshooter

Well I didn't make it to the range today but shot in the basement and all I can do is say wow. Very impressive, the speed is incredible and pulling 55 lb back feels like a bow in the 40's. very happy with this bow. For any right handlers out there there is a hunter foes sale on another site at a great price, pm me for more details.

From: Jay B
Date: 08-Aug-13

Got my Great Northern quiver in today, shot a few dozen with it on the Predator. So far I am impressed with the quiver, seems rock solid and dead quiet. After a bunch of shots, no loose arrows, no rattle, feathers don't touch at all. I like the light weight compared with the Delta. I do wish the whole thing was adjustable height wise on the bow, but it doesn't throw the balance off that much.

From: oldbow

Just got my classic this week . I haven't had a lot of time to shoot her but so far I am happy with it. It is 55@28. It draws smooth and shoots a fast arrow. Seems to be faster than my ma widow that is 2lbs heavier. It shoots right where I am looking. I am still trying to quite it down. I will try the higher brace and see what happens. I have not had it long enough to say I like it better than the widow but I have shot the widow for a long time. It was my go to bow for years.

From: Deadringer

Impact riser anyone?

From: LBshooter
Date: 20-Aug-13

They are available, just. Not on the web site, call mike and ask, I'm sure you can get one. I asked Mike about them and they are cut a little different and give you a little more speed. I did not think it was worth the exta money, mine shoots great, fast bow , I don't think I could tell the difference.

From: Deadringer
Date: 20-Aug-13

LBshooter, how are you liking the bow? I've got my next bow narrowed to 3 bows and the predator is one of them.

From: Smithhammer
Date: 20-Aug-13

Well, after several weeks of shooting my Predator Classic, I decided we weren't a good match, despite it being a great shooting bow. I just couldn't get past how heavy it is, especially once I've put a 5-arrow quiver and that many 600gr. arrows on it. Most of my hunting involves a fair bit of hiking, and I've just really come to prefer a lighter bow. For this reason, and others, I'm increasingly shooting my hybrids more than my recurves these days.

That said, I decided to order a Tomahawk Legacy instead, also coincidentally made by Hunter's Niche/Predator. Should be here in a few days...

From: Deadringer
Date: 20-Aug-13

And how are you guys liking the grip? Are the shelves cut close to the hand? Thanks

From: LBshooter
Date: 20-Aug-13

Well ringer, I like it fine so far, have only shot it a few times. It is ast and accurate, and likes heavy arrows. I have shot carbon express 150,250, and 350's and the 350 's shoot the best. The grip is fine, however, It's a little slick and my hand slips which affects the shot. I am going to put a sure grip or something two stop the slipping. I wish it was 5 lbs lighter' I am shooting 55 @ 28 and with my draw at 27 I figure it's 53 or so. The shelf is close to your hand, but not a problem, however, with a glove on it might be. I have been told to look into a bear weather rest which I assume will raise the arrow a tad. All in all I am happy with the predator and it is a great bow, and certainly think it's as good as any out there.

From: PeteA
Date: 20-Aug-13

Dead ringer, forget 3 choices call mike at hunters niche tomorrow! Get the predator and don't look back!

From: Deadringer
Date: 21-Aug-13

Can anyone provide some input on the carbon core limbs that predator has? I have zero experience with any type of carbon limbs so I'm wondering if they're worth the extra money.

From: LBshooter
Date: 21-Aug-13

Deadringer, I don't think youneedto spend the extra, they shoot great just the way they are. Use the extra money and get one of the quivers they sell, I just got one and love it. I must have missed it, but, what are the other two bows your looking at ?

From: Deadringer
Date: 21-Aug-13

BW PTF and Bear T/D

From: LBshooter
Date: 21-Aug-13

Well if your able to shoot ozone of each it might help you decide, but I like this predator a whole lot. Let us know what you choose.

From: Deadringer
Date: 21-Aug-13

Ten4 I will, I've still got a few more bear bows to sale off 1st since I'm going to try and buy this bow without pulling any money out of my wallet, lol. My head is about to explode from looking at so many different bows trying to decide what I want. Lol

Ebony riser.

From: Harleywriter
Date: 04-May-14

Well, James. I don't see a follow up to your post about ordering a new bow. Did you get one? Does it live up to all the gushing on here? I would have to see it "smoke" the other bows as some post that it does.

They are, however, beautiful bows and remind me a lot of the Super Kodiak.

Thought about ordering one but common sense got hold of me. I have more than a couple dozen bows and three of them that I would put up against any bow out there.

But, I keep an open mind.

Show us a photo and give us your thoughts.

From: TradTony
Date: 04-May-14

Harleywriter need to be converted. These bows are do par or better with the top names. I've even shot top name bows and they don't par at even lower poundage. But as I stated before, A BOW IS ONLY AS GOOD AS THE HANDS THAT SHOOT IT.

From: sake3
Date: 07-May-14

There are lots of very good bows. The Predator is one of them.

From: Jim Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 07-May-14

They remind me of G Fred Asbell's takedowns.

From: TradTony
Date: 07-May-14

I concur. They do look like G. Fred Abell's. Are we talking about the Bighorns?

From: Deadringer
Date: 07-May-14

Yes, they were Bighorns. Predators are great, got one and love it. Would still like to try the Impact riser.

From: VA Bowbender
Date: 07-May-14

I saw G Fred Asbell at ETAR and mentioned that I thought my Predator looked like his old Bighorns. He kinda snarled and had an offhand comment about Ron Pittsley. I turned and walked off.

From: Jim Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 10-May-14

Yes the Bighorn Takedowns are what I was referring to.

From: TradTony
Date: 10-May-14

I must admit that Predator and Bighorn do resemble each other. I've always liked Bighorn bows. It saddens when an icon of the Traditional Community such as Asbell can be bias towards another brother of the bow. But there always two sides to a coin and one can never know what his reasons are. Maybe he's upset that Kanati quivers go so well with Predator bows rather than GFA quivers. Hmmmm. Food for thought.

Love mine, I think it is very unique in appearance. It has some mass to it but I'll take smooth and quiet over light weight and It is the nicest shooting recurve I've owned. (I've owned a lot of em) I will say I shot the newer phenolic model at Kalamazoo this year and it's on my list to purchase at the expo next year. I tend to shoot more accurately with a heavier mass weight bow as well.
