According to the club's Facebook page, their shoot (criminally underrated in my and many other's book) is back on for this year :clapper: Usually it is THEE weekend right after the Baltimore shoot. So between that and it being the "first weekend of Summer" and folk's holiday weekend plans, attendance is not what it could be. Welp...this year the Baltimore shoot is slated for May 14, 15 & 16 and the Greencastle shoot is set for TWO weeks later on May 28, 29, 30 & 31.

So if you have the time and inclination, this shoot is one to be greatly enjoyed!

From: Smokedinpa

Too much working! When will I ever have time to try all of your bows Wayne?

From: westrayer
Date: 15-Apr-21

Far better than Baltimore with little crowds

From: Jgetz
Date: 15-Apr-21

This is a fun shoot! But they do a woefully bad job of promoting it! From what I understand they do not want a big crowd? Which I guess is their prerogative? This thing should realistically be the size of Baltimore! Just don't get it?

From: Wayne Hess
Date: 15-Apr-21

John , the club members are money people, they take care of the club very well, and don’t need too big of crowds. But some are archery people too.

Jason, I had 3 different bows for you to shoot at the last shoot , I know what you mean about to much work, = $$$$$$ and no time to enjoy it.

Is it legal to fish that lake without a PA fishing license? I'd love to get my boy into a bass or panfish.

From: Bob Hildenbrand
Date: 18-May-21

two4...If he is under 16 he is good to fish. We'll get him into fishing. We'll be camped up at the pavilion by the lake. Just stop in and ask for me.

And. I have been recruited to help with (new this year) novelties. We are doing a Eagle Eye for half the take $$ from qualifying.

A Iron Man shoot for half the entry $$.

And another, which I am gonna try to get a floating ping pong ball shoot for half the entry money.

From: 1829

Family stuff and, admittedly, not the best forecast will probably keep me from camping from Friday afternoon on. But I plan on driving up to shoot for sure as I'm only about an hour- ish away in western Maryland.

Imma be there shooting a new longbow so if you find any arrows they will be mine

From: hawkeye in PA

J.R. Any arra we finds is yours?????

From: hawkeye in PA
Date: 26-May-21

JR I posted a reply on the Green Castle thread about all arrows lost being yours. It was in jest as I'm taking quite a few to the shoot that have one 3D shoot experience.

After rereading my post it could be taking different ways and I meant no harm. Takecare, Jeff

PS Will you be staying for the grocery shoot?

From: babysaph Professional Bowhunters Society - Qualified Member
Date: 26-May-21

No worries Hawkeye. Some people have no since of humor. I am not one of em. When is the grocery shoot. I’m a go to their website

From: Witherstick
Date: 26-May-21

You ladies and gentlemen of Pennsylvania are very fortunate with two fantastic traditional shoots this Memorial Day weekend. The closest traditional shoot to me this weekend has only 40 targets over a very flat course. Plus, my Wife and I could shoot either of the traditional shoots in Pennsylvania for less than one of us could shoot at the traditional shoot in our own State.

Seems if you put certain words in the name of your shoot you can have very little to offer and charge way over the norm. Probably why those types of shoots get so little attention and turnout is limited to just those who fall for the hype.

We will likely go to an open shoot instead of the traditional shoot here. The open shoot is over varying terrain and only $12. A 9 hour drive to Greencastle is a bit much for a weekend. Tempting to make the 6 hour drive to Franklin though.

RAIN

From: 1829
Date: 29-May-21

RAIN is right! Fellow forum member Tundra and myself (he's a club member and lives pretty local; I'm only an hour away in western MD) were coming to shoot today like we usually do but then decided on Sunday. And then Sunday went from dry-ish to cool and wet. Now we're gonna get there around 0830-0900 Monday and shoot till noon or a little after.

For the price, you can't beat this shoot with it's beautiful grounds, high quality targets and friendly folks. I just wish three of the three and a half days weren't so damp and dreary this year!

Monday was the best day weather wise for sure. We shot the entire course today an it was perfect weather sunny a little warm but not bad after the cool weather. Great course again the staff does a fantastic job. Enjoyed the day with good friends.

Tundra

From: 1829
Date: 31-May-21

Agreed Tundra! Fantastic weather today, even if only for the half day that remained. The staff at Greencastle Sportsmen are some great folks and really put on a fantastic shoot. Hopefully next year I'll end up camping like I threatened to this year! I think I look forward to this shoot almost as much as any of the others in the MD/PA states.

Even with perfect weather, the Memorial Day weekend timing makes it tough for a lot of people to attend. They have family things and trips planned. That's mainly why I had to stop going.
