I’m thinking about a lens or telescope for my I phone, just wondering if any of you have any experience with that. I would like to get a good one for those further away pictures.

You're kidding, right?

My sister has one. You have to hold it very, very still. Its like holding a spotting scope off hand.

I don't think he is kidding.

Why would he be kidding? No different than a camera with telephoto lens. Not hard to understand.

I had one on my Dick Tracey Wrist Radio back in the 50's. Oh wait....that was a magnifying glass.

Seems it would be a bugger to hand hold, as mentioned. I know I struggle trying to use a camera on long shots and it has some pretty good mass.

They work very good with a sporting scope.

Not kidding. Google it, seems like it would be a pretty neat setup, I just don’t know how hard it would be to hold steady. They are not very big.

I had one for a bit that I tried with my samsung. Free handed, it did ok at lower magnification but keeping it steady at higher magnification was an issue and pictures didn't turn out all that great. It did better with the phone in a tripod mount.

I considered one for awhile but my daughter had a couple several years ago. When I asked her about them, she told me the were magnetic so I knew that would not work for me in the woods. I never checked into them any farther, so I don’t know if that is the only way of attachment or not.

Those phoneskope adapters are neat!

Shoe,

When you get one, share with us a picture, please.

"I was thinking about a lens or telescope for my Iphone",,I've got to be honest that's something I'd never thought I'd ever hear.

They usually come with a small tripod.

Unless you want to put out out some big bucks for a cumbersome scope, the cell phone scopes are a POS! Get you a good digital camera with optical zoom lens.

From: TrapperKayak

I bought one online for $75 and its a cheap POS. Be very selective and try them out first in a store, not something online sight-unseen (which is what I got, literally).

The lens size is going to work against you.

From: Phil Magistro

Newer phones are capable of taking excellent photos but not telephoto images. Everyone has different take on what is a good photo. Some people are happy with photos that many photographers would toss.

It isn't realistic to think you can get a good photo from the tiny sensor in a phone using a relatively cheap lens. Pros use bodies and lenses that cost several thousand dollars. Even an advanced amateur would use a camera with a sensor that is at least 4-5 times larger than a phone sensor. And they would use a lens that is 10 times or more costly than lenses designed to work with a phone.

You would be much better off buying a small camera with a decent lens.

Maybe when I get cataract surgery I could just get one of those little buggers mounted in my right eye. Sure would allow me to focus on "the spot" wouldn't it.

I am perfectly satisfied with the photo's on my phone but I don't make a living at it.

From: DanaC

I use a small camera but one with a larger sensor. It doesn't have a lot of 'zoom' but you can crop the pictures down a lot and still get good results.

Thanks for all the replies. I’m on the same page with most of you, I just happened to see them and was curious. Last year when I got out of my truck, there was a huge buck back by the edge of the woods, which is close to a half mile. All I had was my cellphone, that’s what made me wonder about it.

I hunted with sheep guides last year. They use phonescopes with their spotting scopes. They get pretty good videos and stills using a Bluetooth shutter control. My son has one and I used it with my scope. Nice setups.

George, you're memory is is fading...Bat Masterson was still sheriff of Dodge City when we were young. Dick Tracy was what our kids watched, lol.

I've used them taking handicapped kids turkey hunting. Work very well and allow you to make sure the crosshairs are on the target.
