I have my Rinehart deer target standing over re-bar that's hammered into the ground. Over time the target gets pushed backward because the ground gives way, resulting in the target not standing fully erect, but now leaning away from the shooter's side.
Do you have any ideas how I can eliminate that backward lean, and have the target standing perfectly erect?
Let me know what you think might work, and thank you in advance for your interest and input.
Shoot 'em straight. >>>------>

They sell 3D target stands on Amazon for $30 each, if you go that route make sure and get the ones with 4 feet that contact the ground independently. The other style with ski-type feet aren't worth a darn unless they're on perfectly flat ground. Otherwise, I've wedged tree limbs in behind mine on occasion.

Cut two 30" pieces of 2x4. Get 2- 10" pieces of 1/2" threaded rod and 4- 1/2" nuts.
In the middle of each, drill a 1/2" hole. Counterbore at 7/8" on bottom. Thread one nut on and run up 2 inches. Insert the end through the board and thread on the lower nut. Tighten so the bottom of the rod is flush. Two of these will support a deer target and allow easy moving.
(The ones in the picture are three layers of plywood, which I had access to tons of at the time...)

Garnet, here are a couple of bases that my club has been using. You can drill out 4x4s and hammer rebar into them. The pressure treated lasts a long time in the outdoors.

We also have a club member that welds a simple cage that is nicely portable.

Hey Gray Goose Shaft ... you did it wrong!
You're supposed to pin that hat to the ground by putting the rebar through the offending logo on the front of that hat!

Pull up the rebar stakes and move them 4 or 5 inches and drive them back.

We also have a three 2x4 arrangement similar to DanaC's picture. I'll get a photo of that, maybe with another hat. :>)

Here is a stand similar to Dana's. It uses three 2x4s loosely bolted end to end and two threaded rods. The treated lumber has lasted us over 20 years.
