Just ordered my first tent-style blind after reading Juspassin's blind thread and looked around some at the options for chairs, most of which looked like they'd sink down into the ground and have me peaking over the bottom of even low-profile windows. I've used tripod seats and folding bench style seats with a back for years in my stick blinds and found they suck after 5 minutes.

Anyone find a decent, relatively lightweight option that's comfy for a few hours and doesn't sink down without lugging an area rug or something to set it on? And before anyone says it, the search function has failed me once again...

I won't recommend an inexpensive chair. Did that for years and had to buy several and none did what I needed.

I'd advise getting a good one to start with.

5 gallon bucket upside down with a 3 dollar foam pad from the garden section of walmart on it. Pretty cheap and doesnt sink into the ground.

1buckurout, I know, I know...

Ryan, that crossed my mind, but at 49 I'd like a backrest for those snooze attacks that pop outta nowhere, lol.

Rick, a little of both most likely...

Car54, thanks, I'm on it!

Redneck Blinds portable hunting chair has a padded seat and back rest with a swivel seat .

The buckets work great, and you can carry lunch, etc. In it. Get one with a swivel seat. That said, I use an aluminum frame folding stool. They have a strap for carrying, which allows you to shoot if you get a shot walking in. Get the one without the backrest because it increases weight significantly. Most have a zippered pocket for extra stuff. All I use. Great for hunting even without a blind. A seat can make a big difference for a hunter who likes to stay in one place, and the folding stool makes it easy to change locations. About $12 at Wal-Mart. Being old, I can't/won't stand up all day.

When it comes to chairs, there's cheap and there's comfortable, and those don't travel together.

You can get a 'cheap' folding stool at Walmart for $6, and it's 'better than sitting on the ground', but not much more. Good for 'run and gun'. No back, no padding.

Found this on craigslist for the princely sum of $15. Brand is 'Harley Davidson' (can't make this up).

This is my preferred combination for a more 'permanent' set-up - comfortable enough for hours

Bonus points on bucket seat if you remove the metal bail (noisy) and replace with a piece of string. Look around and you can find green buckets.

First folding lawn chair without arms at garage sales 2-3 dollars.

Thank you kindly, gentlemen. Fred, I ended up ordering the Redneck blind chair on sale with free shipping for 70 clams. Looks like it'll do the trick! On the heavier side for any run n gun scenario, but heck, so is the blind itself. I'll mostly be using it with the kiddo so I'll let him use his little camping chair until he's big enough for a bucket, ha!

Do you sit I a cheap chair at home? If your going to spend any time in a blind then don't you think you need to be comfortable or you will figit and blow everything out making noise in the blind.

Cabela's has so 360 chairs that are heavy but your rear end will thank you.

The chair I mentioned ordering in the above post gets great reviews for comfort, Rymancat. Thanks for the suggestions, guys!

I have a chair that I bought at Academy Sports and Outdoors in Cedar Park, Texas that I paid $12.00 for. It has a pouch on it like the old Doc Nordberg stool that is handy in and of itself. It isn't particularly heavy, and it is made well.

I did a few modifications on the chair so that I can use it in a fashion that is more user friendly to me than a Waldrop.

My wife thought I was crazy for this. Nothing new. I picked up a shower chair at a yard sale and camo painted it. Super super light, sturdy, wide rubber feet, all four legs easily height adjust. Setting in it turkey hunting as I type this.

fdp, I have a similar stool strapped to a pack for hiking in and finding a spot to sit for a couple hours at a time when I'm learning a new area, works great for that but gets uncomfortable quickly for me.

Okie, that's crazy like a fox! If they had a backrest I'd seriously consider something like that.

The one I have has a back on it and is as comfortable as any I've used. But all folks are different.

Any office chair set on the curb by neighbors. Comfortable and swivel.

From: wooddamon1 Compton's Traditional Bowhunters

fdp, so does the one I mentioned, but it sticks so straight up it gets bad quick.

Sasquatch73, another good idea, can't count the times I've driven past old office chairs by the road for the taking.

From: babysaph Professional Bowhunters Society - Qualified Member
Date: 09-Apr-21

That is an idea Sasq. It it is permanent blind you could take the chair and bury the legs to the height you wanted and it would swivel around and has a back on it. Run and gun you could pull it by the back and roll it around behind you. LOL.

The Redneck chair is super comfortable and quiet. Lightweight not so much. If I’m moving I prefer my Waldrop but they’re not cheap. But I’m gonna order a spare!

From: Bjrogg
Date: 09-Apr-21

For my permanent blinds I use discarded office chairs. Very comfortable. Swivel and also adjust the height to suit your windows. I’ve never bought one. Just pick up the ones people are throwing out. If I don’t like it I can always throw it out to.

A chair to hate

Ive had and used this one for 20 yrs, and every year I cussed at the seat, I was always replacing the rubber tube feet, either cracked or stuck in the ground some place. 1 or 2 feet would sink in the ground, I started carrying little squares of wood to set it on in the pouch. I strongly "WOULD NOT" recommend this chair!

Ha, you can see a foot missing in this pic...

What some people call dove chairs. A folding chair with backrest and a pouch underneath. Go to local hardware store e buy rubber caps the kind that are on crutches. Glue them on. I put a piece of pool noodle on the rung under my knees. Store some camo cloth in it with clothes pins to make a quick blind. I go 250 and works great for me

You can have cheap or you can be comfortable. I’ve been thru many stools over the years. Those folding ones always end up cutting into the back of my legs. 3 legged ones end up sinking. So I bought a Millenium chair. Swivels , adjustable height legs. Foot on legs so it doesn’t sink and a back on it to lean against. I have spent 7 hours sitting in it in a turkey blind. Yeah it’s expensive but I’ll never have to buy another chair.

Great ideas guys. I'll eventually have a Waldrop seat for running around to different ground spots/new areas, etc. This one is basically for a semi-permanent situation, maybe be moved a couple- 3 times during a season.

MikeT, that folder with the backrest is very similar to what I have strapped to a pack now, serves it's purpose for short recon sits but mine has a back that sits too straight up for my liking.

Danielb and JLBSparks, I actually thought about those but was concerned about being too low and excessive nap attacks. I have an old wooden one by the firepit that proves that theory lol.

babysaph, that's not a bad idea, but rather than roll it behind me, maybe a deer cart for that and all this other heavy crap I'll end up dragging around! I swear I switched 25+ years ago just because I loved how light our bows are...ha...

I tried a few seats over the years..Some had no back support, some dug into the back of my legs, the triangle ones really gave me issues...I bought a Millennium chair and found it to be very comfortable. It came with a single shoulder strap and the legs are adjustable in case you are not on level ground. They are not cheap but I have had mine for 3 years and it still looks great.

From: Babysaph Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member

All kidding aside. I’ve tried em all. If it’s just for an hour here or there then a Walmart seat will do. I hunted last year solely on the ground and hunted in a Waldrop Pac Seat. I go for 3-5 hours at a time and it was great. Can’t see why it wouldn’t work in a blind. You get what you pay for. And also what you don’t pay for.

If you plan to sit long hours in a blind, comfort is king. The chair should have a good backrest, be quiet, and the seat high enough that you can shoot from a seated position. A plastic lawn chair will satisfy all the above provided you don’t have to carry it far. My blinds are set up in clover fields that I can drive right up to so weight and portability are not issues for me.

I have started using the "buy once cry once" for my hunting gear purchases. After buying several chairs and losing out on shots of several nice coues deer due to squeaking and other noises I purchased the redneck blind chair and it is nice but too heavy. I then purchased a millennium chair and now my son and friends have bought them as well. They swivel and have a back rest and very important for me on the terrain I hunt the legs extend in and out for uneven terrain. When I sit in a blind for coues I sit from morning til dark because they come in anytime of the day. That chair makes all the difference in the world in being comfortable. To me it is well worth the money. I wish I had a dollar for all the "cheap" hunting items and binoculars I have bought in the past that I don't use any. If someone can't afford a nicer item then that is very understandable but I have found if you can afford it then there are certain items that are well worth the investment and for me a good blind chair is one of them.

Most of my gear is at or near top shelf stuff, so I hear you guys about buying once, but for 70 bucks vs 200ish, I'll see if I can make it work for my needs. I honestly don't see myself sitting more than 3-4 hours tops, too hyper most of the time. Who knows, I may end up enjoying this blind hunting enough to invest in a very nice one someday and pass this one along to my son to use when he's along and old enough to shoot stuff.

Thanks again for all the suggestions from everyone!
