I have a little partite gig at an outdoor store. We just got a bunch of kayaks in and these 28x13x3" closed cell foam forms were in the hulls for shipping purposes. I scored 6. A couple pieces of scrape wood, $3.99 tie down straps from Harbor Freight and about 30 minutes of time and Voila! A new target. The thin black foam sheets also came from the store. Cut sheets to 18x23. Drew some deer vitals, turkey shapes and hold the faces on with some bent wire hangers target face holders.

I work part time at an outdoor store in NY. This closed cell foam is cut to fit the hull shape and stuck inside kayaks when they are shipped to our store. We discard them when we put the kayaks on the floor. The foam is pretty dense. I've only shot into it from 5 yards away with my 45lb Hunters Niche Predator. My arrows don't go any more the 1/2 of the way through. The compression straps hold everything together - 6 individual pieces of foam. It also compresses everything down slightly making it even a little more dense. I can also move around the layers as the middle gets shot out.

Did a similar thing with MK-19 ammo packing material. @14x16 - 1 1/2" foam. Duct tape top and bottom, 5-6 pieces, cheap broadhead target 62-70# bows with a dull head. When torn up goes in the trash.

Nice job Pete. It's great to be able to re purpose stuff that's going to be sent to the dump anyway. Why should we pay lots of money for things that we're only going to shoot up and destroy. Here's a picture from my practice area in my backyard. The white bags cost a dollar and I fill them with the plastic that all the stores get when they get pallets of goods delivered. When the bag gets shot up, it's just to put them into the next bag. The foam is recycled and the black mats are old conveyor belts. They're the same that I cut out the animal shapes that I shot blunts at that I set up at our club. A good idea is to paint the exposed white foam with latex. It helps it from breaking down from uv rays.
