Went Turkey hunting this morning here in the SC lowcountry and about froze to death. It was 37 or 38 which is cold here for winter, but for April it’s ridiculous. I don’t have “cold” weather Turkey gear. I had 4 shirts (wool and poly) on topped with my usual camo shirt, and let me tell you - it was about 3 shirts too few. With the wind blowing, I was seriously shivering. Fortunately, for the 3rd trip in a row, I didn’t even HEAR a Turkey sound, so my shivering didn’t scare them away. Probably just as well - my lower back has been killing me, and with the cold weather, I’m not even sure I could of drawn my bow. The walk back out sure wasn’t fun either. Other than that it was a beautiful morning! I hope someone on here is having some Turkey success.

Yah, 38 degrees we have cookouts and eat at the picnic table!

Just teasing!

I know though, when you are immobile it sometimes doesn't take much to make you really cold.

I guess it's what you are used to. I'm in Miami FL all my life. Went to Alabama for a deer hunt once and the temps dipped to 32 in the evening. I never had my teeth chatter out of control like it did that day because of cold Thought I was going to die of hyperthermia that day as I was waiting for my people to come get me in their pickup truck. And those folks said I was dressed correctly and I was dressed like them so the problem was me.

Went ice fishing once at minus 64. Spent 8 hours in it for a bucket of yellow perch. Hunted in a lot warmer I'll tell you! I am thinking of getting one of them fancy e-vests you plug in and charge it. Guys are saying it's a game changer.

Low 20's the last three mornings in the mountains of the Old North State. The gobblers have been silent and roosting and spending the mornings down in the gullies, out of that cold wind. Our season opens in a week.

Richard.. as a Michigan boy I have no soft spots for your pain..having said all of that my bride and I spend a good part of early September in your beautiful state every year. Maybe that good heat gets us through our winters. Good luck with the birds man!

When we headed for church it was 16 degrees. The sap didn’t run until noon. It gave me a chance to finish off a few gallons of maple syrup. One of the sugar bushes up here had 4800 gallons of sap per hour running into his sugar house last week. It is a multi million dollar operation on 250 acres.. We have had a fair run up here. Cold nights help. Turkey hunting is a while away so it should warm up by then.

Don't go hunting and be uncomfortable. You won't enjoy it.

Depending on the strength of the wind, 38* can be damn cold, especially when you're not conditioned to cool weather.
