When did they go out of buisness?

From: Drahthaar

Don't no, still hunt out of 1 sometimes. Forrest

Their plant was local. I still have 3 and haven't found anything I like better. As I recall the plain-jane LEM model cost around $55. The fold-out fabric seat was awful, but the after-market padded replacement made it comparable to a throne! You can still find them at yard sales, flea-bay, etc. I did manage one "near- miss" in forty-plus years of hunting out of them. I somehow managed to get the hook on the inside edge of a link and not all the way through it. When I stood on it the chain popped off and it went to the ground. Luckily I was hanging by two limbs....that decent was absolutely Baker-ish, though. You can cure ignorance, but you can't cure stupid!

I used a Lem for years however I no longer climb trees. It was a great stand but the seat was uncomfortable. I replaced it with a homemade padded seat and it was awesome. Frank

I’m kinda glad they did. I was in one when it came loose with me in it.

Never had an issue with the loc on stands. I was obsessive tho with anchoring to the tree.

I used the spirit but I got the chain instead of the belt and added the seat upgrade. It worked good strapped low for ground hunting also. Being aluminum it was nice to carry.

I've had a spirit for along time now. Like the stand, it is light for sure. I took the chain off last year and put a strap on. I don't leave it in a tree and use it more as a mobile stand now.

A friend of mine used them a long time ago. As I recall the platform was waaay too small for my size 14's.

I have one but only used it a few times.Super light with a platform about the size of a postage stamp.

I doubt you can find a lighter stand. But with carry comfort you sacrifice sitting comfort. I would think they would be as safe as any. Negligence on the operators part is not the manufacturers fault.

From: Billy Singleton

I use them quite a bit, like them just fine.

I own 7 aluminum Spirits with the chain and seat up grades. Best stand I’ve ever owned. They’re all I use pretty much.

I hunt one property that still has one chained into a tree umteen years later. Tree has grown around the chain completely. Love seeing it but wonder if the dude ever killed a deer from it? Its still in a great spot by the way!

They went out of business for a reason.

From: DanaC
Date: 01-Apr-21

Had one. Uncomfortable. Probably went out of business because other makers innovated and made better products. They were blessedly light for their time.

From: Skeets
Date: 01-Apr-21

So why did they go out of business. Was it lawsuits? Or was it because they could make stands in China cheaper?

From: olddogrib
Date: 01-Apr-21

I heard they had litigation issues, but talk is cheap and lawyers are plentiful...just watch next time you hear an ambulance go by. The only product they ever made that I didn't trust was the nylon rope replacement in answer to the "noisy chain" crowd. The chains didn't bother me, as I was fortunate to be able to leave mine up all season (and still do). The rope replacement tightened with the "Chinese finger lock" method and was secure enough, but difficult to loosen....I just never trusted squirrels not to gnaw on it. Whatever lawsuits they had probably had nothing to do with it, because I don't recall that replacement being marketed for very long. The fact that I'm using 3 that are probably about 40 years old speaks volumes! The only mods I made were the padded seats and if I had a tree too large in diameter I bolted a chain extension on them.

Most treestand manufacturers have lawsuits. That is what their insurance is for.

I have 2 of the Limit stands. Both of them about 35 years old and they are still one of my favorites. I have the replacement seat on one and wish I had it on the other. Platform is small for some guys but I like it.

I had the Scorpion model and wished I didn't sell it.

was un equaled until lone Wolf came out

From: Kansasclipper

Other than the Lone Wolf Assault, no other stand compares to the Limit and Windwalker. Sine I bought mine back in the mid 80's no one has come out with a better stand, or that light.

Be careful with the wind walkers that’s the one that gave way with me in it causing me to be parlized for several months and 15 hrs of back surgery and a metal cage around my spine. Just saying be safe.

Ben Suthard was one of the nicest gentleman that I have met in the The hunting industry. He did fuss at me once for stomping a stand in place rather than folding it down to lock it in. I have literally owned over a hundred Lock Ons. I never had one issue with them. I liked the chain for durability but I used the rope in tight quarters. I changed them out nearly every year. I found one a couple of years ago that I forgot about in the early eighties. The chain and V were part of the tree. The Wind Walker was small for my 14s too but I did kill many good bucks from it. But the strap would slip after it got old and worn. Over the years I’ve given many to friends. After Ben stepped down or passed I heard the company was taken over by his son. I don’t know what happened from there. But while Ben ran it it was about the standard. But so was Ben.
