Anybody from South Texas? Hunting Texas is on my bucket list. Any state land in South Texas to hunt. Is the hunting good in South Texas?

With Bidens open borders it might get a bit crowded.

What is your definition of South Texas Donald (the out of state definition isn't typically the same as the definition when you live here) and what do you want to hunt?

Red Beastmaster, probably not many more illegal crossings going on now then there were a year ago. Oddly enough governmental policy doesn't have a huge affect on illegal activity.

Well I have one family member that lives out there. Just told me South Texas. She moved out there from N.J. That’s all I know. I’m thinking maybe pigs never hunted them.

Take a look at this link;

https://tpwd.texas.gov/huntwild/hunt/public/

This will give you about all the information that you need related to public hunting land.

There are scads of places to hunt pigs (not necessarily Javelina) on public land in Texas, though South Texas isn't the prime area.

I've had a standing invitation on here for years that I would take anybody that came down here around and show them the spots.

I hunted below San Antonio a few years ago. I killed a pig, but I was javalina hunting. I saw a BUNCH of illegals. My guide told me to carry my pistol but avoid them as much as possible.

Thanks Frank If I ever get out there I will look you up.;)

Sawtooth that's what folks don't get.

Illegal crossings and potential encounters aren't anything uncommon if you live or frequent the border country of Texas.

I carried a Ruger Security Six on a belt holster and a shotgun on a gun rack in the truck everyday, from the time I was about 18, and I wasn't the exception to the rule.

That guy in the photo with me is Tom Vanasche. If you look you can see his firearm tucked away in his armpit. I was really fortunate that he was part of our group. He is very successful as a bowhunter and has some great stories.

Hunting South Texas has a lot to offer, but I’m not aware of any public hunting around there. All of my hunts have been paid for, or provided by friends. There are a few ranches that offer dayhunts, for a somewhat affordable price. I read somewhere awhile back, that 96% of all the land in Texas was private. I live in SE Texas, and it pisses me off that I don’t even have a public place to go stump shooting! But, at least I live in Texas. Haha.

I live in SA TX and haven't been hunting in two years. No place to go and can't afford to pay for a lease.

Southeast of Austin is a piece of public land, Granger WMU. I hunted there several times, twice with FDP. Haven't scored yet but I've seen plenty of pigs and a few nice bucks. This piece of Granger is a small parcel but Granger itself is quite large. A non-resident license for deer is pretty pricey at $320, for pigs it's about $48. Actually I'm in Texas now but not hunting this trip. Frank

My son lives in San Antonio and has a "green" area behind his house that has a lot of deer and wild hogs buy I don't think you can hunt there. No

I have been hunting S. TX. for Javelina and Hogs for 30 yrs. I can count on one hand the amount of folks have seen walking North. Some carrying water jugs, and some with heavy back packs. Never an issue. I hunt in Webb Co.

I grew up in the Rio Grande Valley and the hunting can be tough. All of my hunting down there was private & military but here's a link https://tpwd.texas.gov/huntwild/hu nt/

Yea I carry here all the time too. You don’t have to have people coming across the border to run into dangerous people

I watched the movie "Deliverance" when it first came out and always carry when I hunt or fly fish Tennessee, North Carolina or north Georgia. I'm with you guys.

I carry all the time, but when I’m in a place that has 300# wild hogs, I step up the caliber. Nothing scarier than stumbling on to a big sow with her young ones, and pissing her off!
