Anyone shooting 100 grain broadheads off your stick bows at deer? I just happened to have a pile of 2016s and a pile of coc 100 grain heads and the combo looks great off my #46 Longbow at 10/gpp. Would that combo cause anyone heartburn for Kentucky white tails? It’s a lot lower in weight then I’ve ever shot before, just looking for reassurance.

if arrow is flying straight, no problem the deer will never no the difference, you could be surprised at arrow flight. as in better balanced arrow.

I don’t believe I could get that to tune at #46, but OAL....

At that poundage, I would think 1916 or even 1816, depending on the cut-to- center and the string, but I keep my arrows to 27 3/4” or 28”.

But Tuned is Tuned. If that arrow flies for you, I can’t foresee it bouncing off of a deer.... I’m sure there are a lot of dead Elk that have fallen to something plenty similar, though if I were setting out to kill an Elk at that poundage, I think I’d be looking at a high-FOC set-up. On a whitetail? I think you’re plenty good.

Surprisingly enough many of the old timers shot broadheads that were 100grs. and sometimes less.

So they will still work just fine.

If you want to add tip weight, get this tool from 3 rivers, and tap out the insert then remove and add screw on weights to back 25 are 50 gr. and glue insert back in. just like a gold tip weight

I can’t cut it any shorter or add any weight it’ll be weak...it’s tuned perfectly right now.

What length is working for you?

29.5”, I draw a shade over 28. Bow is carbon foam zipper Nitro with skinny string.

A deer will never know he got shot with a 100 grain head. If that's what tunes I would not think twice about the weight. That said, I haven't changed methods to meet modern methods. (Except f/f strings, which is a huge improvement to any bow.). I never did get into arrow weight or FOC. I'm certain I'm missing better penetration, but as I've said before, pass thru is pass thru. To me, an arrow weighs what it weighs. As long as it tunes, its all good. Just remember I've been set in my ways since the 70s. And lets not forget, trad hunting shots are very close and specifics beyond being tuned are not critical.

When I use to shoot a compound years ago, I killed deer with a 57 gr. rocket mechanical 3 blade broadhead .Thats back in my speed freak days lol. I couldn’t believe the wound that little broadhead would leave it looked like you took a ax to the outgoing side of deer, but it would bend all 3 blades also lol.I have used 100 gr. Cut on contact BH with my recurves and never had any trouble but the bow and arrows were well tuned also.I prefer a 175 gr. Vpa 3 blade or a 2 blade single bevel Grizzly now.I think I will like the Grizzlies but haven’t shot anything besides foam with them so far .....

Deer Hunting 101: Sharp broadhead + well tuned arrow + shot placed in the vitals = dead deer.

Well you're 6-8#s heavier in bow weight than what my draw length and bows yield. Ive used from 10 gpp-13.75 gpp on our whitetails from these bows and penetration-wise i have seen 0 difference- -2 holes is the norm for me. You're well tuned and that makes quite a difference--- I'd say youre all set.

As long as you put it where it belongs and the heads sharp ur good to go, same as with any setup.

I use 100gr on 2013 Easton xx75 shafts, no problems at all.
